Fitted No-slip Saddle Pad Suggestions

fitted saddle pads

The Ecogold saddle pads don’t slip. I bought a used one from someone and like it alot.

Thanks!

Thanks again for all the wonderful suggestions!

I have tried the damp chamiox (sp?) under the saddle pad with mixed results. I also tried a friends fitted baby pad (super thin and wonderfully inexpensive) this weekend that will work very well for regular schooling. I’m not sure it’s enough for heavy work.

I did notice that Horse Country has a fitted Quilted Contour Pad made with Thermatex that supposedly wicks moisture. It might be a bit thicker than a cotton pad. Of course it carries a higher price but from what I understand they have quality tack so I would expect it to hold up for quite some time.

Does anyone use the Horse Country pads? Thoughts?

Ecogold hunter pad - with fleece around the edges: https://www.ecogold.ca/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=42

Ecogold Secure pad (no fleece around the edges): https://www.ecogold.ca/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=65

all 100% breathable, non-slip + have impact protection cushioning in the seat area but nothing on the flaps for better contact. we often have demos if your budget is lower (pads we have out at shows or around the factory, not necessarily ridden in - they are totally clean but can’t sell as new).

I don’t know anything about Horse Country, but my experience of Thermatex as far as rugs are concerned is it’s incredibly warm, with great wicking properties, but it’s not very robust. It’s a knitted fabric, and any snags run like they would in a knitted sweater, therefore.

It’s also not thrilled about being washed, which I think might be more of an issue for a saddle pad than for a rug.

Thermatex

Romany–that’s no good. :frowning: I’m a “use and abuse until it falls apart” person so I might not want something that has to be babied along.

Does anyone else have Thermatex saddle pad experience? I’d hate to pay for it only to have it fall apart.

I see a couple sold recently on Ebay UK - you could try contacting the sellers - and the buyers - and see what they think of them?

How much are they at Horse Country? They’re pretty cheap from Thermatex direct, I notice!

I still recommend the Nuu-Med like mine.

What about a Limpet pad? I don’t know a thing about them, but does say it doesn’t slip:

I’m not sure if this is what you want, but I have a fitted pad, that is fuzzy on the edges and waffle weave in the center. I use it to hunt, it doesn’t slip for me. Big Dee’s tack shop in Streetsboro, OH. About $20.

I contacted Ecogold about trying to find a demo, but never got a response. Has anyone actually achieved that?

Ecogold

I’ve had the chance to ask several competitors at local HTs about the pads (especially the Secure line). The feedback has been nothing but positive. I usually see them used with a half pad, which is not something that I can do with my horse. I also spoke to an Ecogold rep recently and was able to look the pads over and ask questions. I also got the sales pitch on all the top names in the eventing, show jumping , and dressage worlds that are using their products.

The Secure pads for eventing are not a true fitted shape. But I hope it’s close enough for hunting.

Naters–where did you contact information come from–website? I can pull the name and number off my order form if you like.

hi, please contact me on my normal email: patricia@ecogold.ca or call me at 1-866-432-6465.

Naters, I did reply right away but can’t seem to find the response. Maybe I forgot to press “send” or something…Truly, truly sorry.

BTW - we had a ton of riders come to our stand at Rolex who use our eventing pad for hunting. Someone said “if it works for eventers, it’s gonna work for hunting!” plus a nice testimonial here, with a picture so you know how it’s going to look: http://www.ecogold.ca/videos-and-blog/testimonials.html

I have the perfect solution…

and cheap too!! Get thee to thy local tack shop or race track tack store and buy one of those blue, vented, squishy leg protectors that go under track bandages. They come in a box (which I no longer have), look a bit like squishy, light blue placemat sized things that would keep your rug from sliding around the hardwood floor. You place it between whatever saddle pad works with your saddle and the horse, in front, over the withers and your saddle will not slip. They are quite thin, but provide some padding. You can rinse them off, hang them dry and I haven’t worn out one yet. I use them on the big horse when jumping as he’s got quite a jump and even with a breastplate, my saddle would move around a bit. With this, it stays right where it belongs.
