Fly Control for Small Barn

Thanks everyone. I’m in the Florida panhandle so they do spray for mosquitoes here but I’ve only seen the truck once in the almost 2 years I’ve been here. The barn is set quite a way Back off the road.

I’ll just fly spray him in the aisle way & not in the stall. Monthly release of predators should be enough for us. A dirty barn drives me nuts, so it will definitely be clean.

Flies aren’t terrible here. Luckily we have no deer fly & maybe a handful of horsefly around. There are more pests where he’s currently boarded because they back up to a wooded part of Elgin AFB.

I won’t have a second pasture to rotate to until next year so I do plan on removing manure once a week.

I used predator flies for years but stopped when I got free-range chickens, then used feed-through Solitude, but I’ve given up on all of them but good fly traps and spraying strong Premetharin (sp) on them a few times a week. I live close to fresh water now and the GDed biting Stable Flies can run a horse to distress. I get them under control this way. Oh, and I used good pasture maintenance.

I’ve had a few people tell me to get chickens. I don’t really want them & they will probably end up as coyote snacks. My SO wouldn’t be thrilled either. As a kid his family had chickens & it was his job to take care of them. He ended up in trouble with his dad one night, it was raining & his dad asked if the chickens were fed. His answer was the chickens weren’t hungry 😂

Are bats good for eating flies? I have heard putting up a bat house helps with mosquitos since they eat them and as long as your animals are utd on rabies they are ok? Do bats really help that much with mosquitos and would they help with flies? Just wondering out loud here lol.
