Fly Sheets-Worth It?

I feed a very scientifically measured 4-5 glugs from a full gallon jug. :stuck_out_tongue:

It is about 60cc once a day.

I had one horse who was exceptionally attractive to biting flies. In the spring when the blackflies come out the horses all get a thick welt at their neck and chest junction where the flies can get through the hair as the horses graze. My guy would get two or three welts. ACV started at least ten days before blackfly season meant he’d get one welt like a normal horse. I don’t think it is a cure all, but if it will reduce bites by a percentage I may not notice, but the horse appreciates it.

I don’t notice a difference with either of my current horses. Except last summer one of them was having eating issues and didn’t get his daily ACV. He was bothered and bitten more than my other horse who did get his ACV, and usually it is the other way around.

I’ve had horses in Montana and Texas and in both geographies the Baker fly sheets are my favorite. They have fit everything from my cutting horse bred QH, to my lanky OTTB, to my compact warmblood and my slightly chubby TB. I’ve tried the Fly Turtle, a couple inexpensive no-name brands, Bucas, and Weatherbeeta Airflow. The issues I had were mostly with fit and rubbing. I do swap my horses to night-time turnout in the hottest summer months because, well, Texas.

My almost brand new sheet is in the tack store to be sold. Last year she must have got a biting insect under her sheet and ran into the electric fence post giving herself a nasty gash on the hind cannon bone. A fence that has been there her whole life.

I’m going to use lots of spray this year - seems to me Eco-Vet worked the best for us (I think!) She also has shade trees and a large dark in/out stall.
