Awesome! Thank you so much, Dee. I will call him.

So after 8 days on the GG, the filly had a very mild colic this morning. I’m a little dismayed because she was doing so well and I thought we were on the right path. I had stopped her grain for a few days but she was doing so well so I let her back to it. I know i shouldn’t have. Those precious little doe eyes beckoned me to let her have a bit. I guess I will be taking it back away for the foreseeable future.
Does anyone have any recommendations as to how I can safely and effectively get the proper nutrients into her since she is a growing foal? Her weight is great. She gets unlimited access to nice grass hay and shares 1-2 sections of alfalfa with her mom in the evenings. I’m not sure if that will give her all she needs in her diet.
Rejuvenaide or Foal Aide will give her the minerals she needs to grow without any added grain. Jingles.
If your filly had bad ulcers, they would not be healed after 8 days on the GG, so it is not unheard of that she could still be affected by the grain at this point. I would not despair, but at the same time keep a close eye on her and look for any signs that maybe you are dealing with something other than ulcers…
No experience with ulcers in foals but, in the two horses I’ve had with ulcer issues, they both were/are maintained on Purina Ultium and UGard and thrived/thrive on that diet, along with all-you-can-eat grass hay. Have tried Foxden’s TractGard and SmartPak’s SmartGut in the past without the same success.

Another update. The filly is doing excellent and I am looking into other ideas to keep her on something a little longer once she finishes the 30 days of gastrogard. I had used UGard on her mom when she had ulcers and it kept her feeling great. Anyone have any other favorites they like to use once done with the GG?
I would keep her on something for sure. This is a lot less expensive than GG: http://www.horseprerace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=32&products_id=83
I do have a large quantity of Ugard I can give her but haven’t done that yet because someone earlier had mentioned the possibility of having too much calcium in the foal’s diet. Does anyone know if this would be a problem?
Tonight I tried giving her a small amount of beet pulp instead of her grain but of course she didn’t like it. I’m going to be getting her a supplement (open to suggestions). I’m going to need something that’s very palatable. Is there anything besides beet pulp I can give her that’s safe for a foal with ulcers to help to deliver whatever supplement I give her?
I’m so confused on all of it because some measure in grams and some give readings in percentages so I’m finding it very hard to make comparisons.
I just wanted to complete this story since some may be using this thread for their own education. I continued with the 30 days of GG and then stopped it. I only gave her a handful of grain and her ration balancer. (Tribute Kalm Ultra for the grain and Tribute Essential K for the RB). She still only gets about 1/2 lb grain and 1 lb of RB along with as much good quality hay as she wants. She is thriving on this diet and I have not had any ulcer issues since she was originally treated at 7 months. Today, she is 15 months old. I thank you all again for your input and help!
So glad for you - and her. I have acid reflux and take a sort of human type of omeprazole - and the relief is enormous, so I think I know how they feel!
