Foal Watch 2024

That is heartbreaking, I am so sorry

{{{{Frequent-Flyer}}}}

My condolences.

So sorry Frequent-Flyer. It’s such a helpless, lost feeling when you have hopes and expectations come crashing down in the worst possible outcome.

You will continue to play the “what if” and “should’ve” game, but know these things happen despite the very best we can do. Hugs to you.

I’m so sorry @Frequent-Flyer. :frowning:

I feel the pain reading your news. Its so hard to process because it’s so senseless and final. Each horse born is somebody’s dream. I’m so sad for your loss.

Hugs. This is the worst way to end foal watch. I’m so sorry this happened to you. Try not to second guess too much, it really doesn’t help but it’s easier said than done.

I had a Facebook memory pop up this morning of our 2022 colt we lost. It is so tough! I am extra grateful today for how well this guy is doing. We are slowly weaning off the milk replacer. I don’t want to stop it all the way until he’s a little better at eating his solid feed, but he’s getting there. He still hasn’t gotten to run around a big turnout but he spends time in a 24x24 pen with our mini to keep him from getting too wild.

Hop was bred yesterday. I was surprised at how well Stork handled her leaving to go to the shed. He’s been very independent, but he honestly only whinnied 4 or 5 times and then went about his day. Of course, when she returned there was a grand unification.

Well.

Cue sad “womp womp” noise.

Carina has a uterus absolutely full of cysts. More than a dozen of them. :frowning: We didn’t even bother to pull a culture and biopsy; she will be just a pasture pet and babysitter. Thankfully, she has at least turned out the be excellent at that job. She is so tolerant of the younger girls and very happy living out in her new little herd.

Arielle also checked open. :confused: She had a tiny almost circular pocket of fluid (~0.5 cm) that could, as a longshot, be an embryo but is more likely a cyst that we haven’t noticed before. The lessee threw a bit of a fit last week when she got her bill for this cycle and doesn’t want to try again, so…We will check Arielle again in a week and either she’ll pull a miracle and be pregnant, or, more likely, we will be setting her up to breed to a different stallion.

That stallion will be Zee Kahili ++//. I bought a breeding to him in fall 2021 and haven’t been able to use it yet due to scheduling conflicts and the stars just not lining up and was going to use that breeding on Carina if she checked out. He’s a 6-time National Champion, in ranch riding, ranch rail, sport horse under saddle, and sport horse in hand (he was the 2023 SHN Supreme Champion SHIH). He also has National Top Tens in reining and trail, and this year he also started showing in both western dressage and traditional dressage (third level!). I’ve been excited about this dude for a long time, so it isn’t the worst thing in world if Arielle is definitely open and gets bred to him. Hopefully she won’t pull any weird hijinks on the next cycle, though. :crossed_fingers:

OOOH, BOY! What a hunk! Maybe Arielle just wanted to get to date someone else :heart_eyes: As for lessee, did she think it happened by magic? Sometimes is just doesn’t work out, ok?

I’m in love, and I don’t usually fall in love with Arabians!
