Food Options For IBD Cat

Wanted to share an update – we just got a new bag of the z/d and they have changed the food – according to cat, it now tastes WAY better. For those who haven’t been able to get cats to eat it in the past, I thought you might want to know in case it was worth another try.

Cat is doing better, he no longer has constant loud runny poo, now he has actual properly shaped poo. He’s gained a little weight back, although I wish it were more. He definitely has more energy, so at least some positive progress.

My kitty is going through this. He recently had an ultrasound which only showed thickening of the lower intestines. Initially, they put him on Royal Canin High Satiety. He loves it and finally has normal poop. The vet called this week. The internal medicinevets now want him on Hill GI Biome. I see that Royal Canin has a version of the High Satiety which is very comparable. I think that will be the way I go.

But thought I would mention the Hills GI Biome. Apparently it is quite new.

One thing I have found, as I have a cat with both the inflamed digestive tract and (Yay!) the inflamed mouth that all too often seem to go together, she has only 3 teeth now but still has gum inflammation, is that the texture of the food can be the issue when dealing with a cat that doesn’t feel well. She loves dry kibbles as treats but I suspect swallows them whole. Her regular food is pate, and only pate, mixed with additional water into soup. She can’t deal with anything chunky in quantity. I think it is not so much that it hurts (if so the kibbles would also be turned down) as it overwhelms her mentally.
