For Fun-Your oldest piece of horse equipment

I have a pelham bit that I know to be 40+ years old. I am pretty sure it’s nearer 60+ years old.

I have the noseband of a Bobby’s bridle that is 30+ years old. The entire hunt bridle was gifted to me 15 years ago. It had been out of use for many years. The lack of use prior to my getting the bridle caused a bit of dry rot in a couple of places.

I have a BT Crump dressage saddle that was gifted to me. It is probably 30-40 years old. It is too narrow for anything I have now, but several of the horses I used it on in the past seemed to like the fit.

I have a horse care and riding book from the 1940s (my grandmother gave it to me) by Margaret Self.

I have one also, the footlocker went to England with my dad (Army Aircorps) in WWII. I painted it white and painted a bay horse on it and took it to camp in 1967 and 1968. It holds extra tack now and in my garage. I also have my Stubben from 1970, used it this year.

My oldest is a WWI era McClellan saddle.

A friend of mine collects sidesaddles for displays at re enactments. She’s got a couple that, I dare say, may be from the early 1800’s?

Its very fun to see how tack changes! Both of my geldings prefer heavy mullen mouth nickel bits that are likely from the 70’s or so. Makes you wonder if all this modern changing in tack is worth it.

I have a bosal that I figure is 80 years old. I also have a Passier dressage saddle I bought in 1956 and have used the heck out of it. Still good.

My saddle from when I was a kid. Old cheapo all purpose lol.

I have one of those too, it was my Dad’s in the war. He routered a design in the top of it for me, and repainted it in the early 70s.

I still have my first set of cowboy boots my mom gave me for Christmas when I was around 13. (40 years ago! ACK!). Boy they are pointy-toed! I love them, though. I only wore them to show, so they’re still in great shape.
