For those that braid

I learned as a kid, but it was so long ago they were sewn in with needle and thread! They looked gorgeous though but years later when I came back to riding, using yarn was so much easier and faster. I think its pretty easy to learn when you are young and poor, it was a great way to earn extra money, but today I would say its worth the money to pay a first rate braider. I found tails much easier and faster to do, I love doing tails.

I wouldn’t leave braids in overnight even to save time and money, I think the horse deserve a little more comfort than that during the night.

I actually remember people sewing braids in back when I showed pony hunter and my mom braided my pony. We just used elastics though.

Could the confusion be about the name “button” braid be that good hunter braiders pull up the crest part of the braid a bit to make the braid lie flat before and tie them below that- As shown in the video of the gray?

I totally still sew my braids in with needle & thread. For me, they’re just as quick as yarn and look so much nicer.
