For those with horses sensitive to touch/grooming

I had a TB mare that was extremely sensitive about grooming and hated with a passion most curries (although the rubber ones with the small, soft prongs she would tolerate).

The one brush she loved? The Haas Grundy’s Finest brush. It’s a soft, horsehair brush, and it also doesn’t generate static.

Expensive but 100% worth it.

I have a sensitive horse too. For some reason, especially sensitive on her right shoulder area but she is generally not happy about being groomed anywhere. She tolerates the tiger tongue better than my soft curry, but still doesn’t love it. What she likes best of all is the sleak ez tool. It might be because I am super careful with that to follow the direction of her hair, whereas with the TT I use it in circular strokes like a curry. I’m thinking of splurging on the haas brushes.

Haas brushes are great! But I have not found them to be static free. The lowest static one is the Diva I think because the center is wool. However, I was surprised that horse likes the Tiger Tongue on his fave even better than the Haas Diva. Really, the problem is the horses here are walking balls of static electricity despite sprays and whatnot. Not the best climate for the sensitive flower.

My horse is super sensitive and definitely wasn’t a fan of grooming until I switched to the Haas brushes. I was skeptical given the cost, but they were well worth is as I can now brush her all over. I find they usually don’t create static. I bought the gray set from Eqclusive and they really do make it easier to keep her clean and she allowed me to brush her year round. The grey pack contains the Haas Schimell; Fellglanburste; Kavallerie; and the Diva. I generally only use the Schimell when she’s really dirty and I use the Diva for shows. My “everyday” brush is the Kavallerie - I can brush anywhere and it works on minor stains and general grubbiness. The Fellglanburste is great for the face and after the Kavallerie.

Another vote for healthy hair then tiger tongue

Between DD and myself, we have a collection of Haas and Leistner brushes. We also live in a very humid environment, so static is not generally a problem. The Red Gelding is still unhappy. I think he’s just sensitive and a bit grumpy. He’s a lovely horse in other ways, but he has always been touch sensitive - brushes, hands, etc… He may very well have a vitamin deficiency of some sort, because he lives out 24/7 (with a run-in shed), is not clipped or blanketed. He is not on grain of any type, as he is an air fern. Hay during the winter and grass during the warmer months is all he’s allowed. I really think it has something to do with his skin/muscle/tissue fibers, as he has also been the hardest to saddle fit. Again, just very sensitive to touch/pressure of any kind.

I find the TT is great for my sensitive guy too! I recently discovered it works really well to remove horse hair from a wool saddle pad and cat hair from my dining room chairs ( a separate one for that, of course!)
