Foxhunting crazed husband???

I think folks with Ft. Leavenworth hunt in uniform sometimes but maybe some of them post/lurk here and could tell you for sure. A guy I hunt with was stationed out there and wore his, but for some reason he doesn’t here. quote]

Yes, they still do. Opening & Closing hunt were especially neat up there when I had my membership back 9 years ago…and then you should see their Hunt Ball. Full Military dress. You feel like a better person just for being in the same room with them…

Oh my.

(Jswan fans herself)

The guy I hunt with told me that when he hunted there, there were still some old cavalrymen around. I love to hear his stories about those guys.

Military Riding

I wear my Army dress blue jacket, white shirt, four-in-hand tie, and a pair of Army dress blue trousers that have been tailored as riding britches. These are the same pants worn by the Old Guard Caisson Platoon at Fort Meyer. Combine these with a pair of black dress boots from Dehner (also supplier to the Caisson Platoon) and you have a riding habit.

Years ago, I turned out like this to present the incoming and outgoing commander’s wives with the traditional yellow roses during a change of command ceremony.

Miss JSwan, if you want, I can tell you where you can get your hubby an authentic replica Army cavalry uniform if that’s your sort of thing. To pose an answer to your question about the lack of uniform wearing, some officers don’t feel comfortable wearing their formal uniforms outside of official military functions because it calls attention to themselves. Some military people are like that. Many of my military friends certainly are. I don’t think they feel that way because of anything they are ashamed of regarding the military but rather because they don’t want people to look at them as “military people” instead of just another American citizen. In the instance of your friend, he may not wear it simply because he feels he doesn’t have to do it here since it may not be a “regular” thing amongst the hunts here, he might feel that he would get grief over it for whatever odd reason, or he could simply want to feel “normal” like my friends do. He may not even be allowed to ride here in anything resembling a regular dress uniform with rank and insignia if he’s active duty or reserve as the regulations stipulate that you are supposed to get command approval before wearing military dress in any representative manner. On the other hand, he might not be comfortable wearing anything of the sort in the hunt weather here though I don’t think it would be too different from wearing the formal hunt garb as far as fabrics and layers go. I think you should pop the question and let us know what his thoughts are.

Good Lord - Mr. JSwan has no intention of ever riding a horse, much less hunting!

Both of us are veterans but the AR for uniforms was quickly forgotten once we received our DD214’s. I do recall that (back then) there was a mounted uniform and a quick blurb about getting your CO’s approval. No biggie.

I can’t thing of many things more conspicuous than a man in tight white britches and a scarlet coat. Guess they should be grateful that these days no one is going to mistake them for British redcoats and take a potshot at them.

Ladies, I hereby solemnly swear (that I am up to no good…) that when Mr. Tullio is all kitted out, I will snap at least one picture and share it. We can all tape it up in our lockers.

I am enjoying this way more than I thought possible. We drove around and scoped out the local tack shops today. Now I love a good tack shop run as much as anyone, but with my husband as a willing accomplice, well that is just the icing on the cake!!!

My first thought too !!!
