The rain looks really miserable.
For sure.
Still five clear for the jump off with about fifteen left in the first round.
What are Lillieâs reins? A buckle in the middle?
Excellent job by Meredith. Relevant and interesting commentary.
I concur. Very well done!
Am I the only one who found very cringe worthy Lauren Houghâs comment regarding horses and water jumps? I winced when she said âand when they (horses) learn that it doesnât hurt when they step on the tape or in the water you are really in troubleâ.
Why? It doesnât. It does hurt when they hit a pole so they avoid hitting them. I donât think anyoneâs under the impression that hitting jumps doesnât hurt.
If one learns to land on the tape it is really hard to fix. You can make a tape out of egg cartons so the noise is a deterrent, but not much else so yes you are in trouble.
I didnât think it was cringe. As soon as my horse figures out the hot wire box is broken and the tape is off heâs sticking his head through the fence until I get it turned back on. Hitting rails hurts stepping on putty tape doesnât makes perfect sense
While it may be accurate, and while most horse people understand that pain is involved (we all know why open fronts are worn), I donât think it was a smart comment to make publicly.
There are plenty of people who are unhappy with the treatment of competition horses, and giving them ammunition seems unwise.
I was there in person and can confirm the rain was miserable! It wasnât pouring but it was a pretty steady rain and there was nothing much to do but sit there and get soaked or leave. I stuck it out through the final jump off round but for the first time in the season I didnât stay for awards - it wasnât raining at that point but I was over it! Wish theyâd left it in the afternoon at the hunt field as originally scheduled.
Why did they change it? Weather concerns?
Also, does anyone know what Tom Brady was doing at the horse show? Do his kids ride?
Catering to those people doesnât help at all. Their views are so off-the-wall that allowing them even a little leeway just makes them take it further and further. Youâre not gonna be able to pretend to them the rails donât hurt. Plus, The odds of a nonhorse person watching a Live feed are slim and actual horse people can learn something.
I asked on one of their FB posts about it last week and they just said they wanted the big 5* to be under the lights which didnât make a lot of sense as an answer since wouldnât that have always been true?
For sure, Iâve seen that class under the lights in the international arena more often than not in the past. I think itâs only been held down on the corner on the grass a few times in the last couple of years.
Yes, non horse people probably wouldnât be watching, but I thought she could have made her point about the water without the âpainâ language.
I didnât cringe at all - in fact, I thought it was an interesting fact that made total sense when she said it, but I would have never considered it since I have never and will never jump a water jump. One of the things I enjoy the most about the live streams is learning something new from the commentators, and I thought this one was one of the better ones Iâve seen this winter.
I agree with whoever said that non-horse people are highly unlikely to be watching these live streams. Non-horse people hardly even watch the equestrian events at the Olympics when they are covered, so the thought any of them would come across the live stream from WEF is more than a little unlikely.
