Hock problems are not “subtle” lamenesses. What you hear depends a lot on what you are paying the source for !
Well, the horses in the study had saddles slipping at a lameness score of 1 or 2 out of 10, and I certainly see folks riding around with crocked hocks who would bite my head off if I said anything might be wrong. They don’t see it or feel it. It’s obvious to me. Im sure it would be obvious to you. It isn’t obvious to them.
