From New England to Virginia

Nope, no drags!

No need for drag hunts here! We have plenty of both gray & red foxes. More grays in southeast and reds in the piedmont. Coyotes moving in and changing the hunting in Va. especially on the north/western piedmont areas. Many hunts hunting both. And yes there are some packs that aren’t registered/recognized but very few.

There are no drag hunts that I am aware of. There are several unrecognized packs like Snikersville (although I heard they may try to get recognized).

If you move down here upi won’t have any problem finding someone to hunt with. I would suggest that you come down during VA hunt week and get with several hunts. The Rappahannock meet at Mt. elery is always good.

Just passing through with a message for Virginians

Yeah, we foxhunters/Virginians are a friendly and welcoming bunch…but how 'bout not giving away ALL secrets in case some of us former residents might move back that way someday. Okay?

Got it Bev!!

Yeah there are a FEW problems with Va. hunt country …all the hunts are really snobby and care more about how you look & the quality of your jacket or horse or tack…hunts are very expensive to join ie: like a…$10K dues after a $5K initiation fee…then the hay prices are like wowee high running $9/bale for last years fescue!..and the hunt territories are real small with lots of 10 acre plots and fences to jump…and horse prices are ridiculous like $20K for a made fieldhunter…Land running $10 K an acre…coyotes have eaten all the foxes…you’ll have a 2 hour commute minimum to your job each way…Hunts have such big fields like 100 or more that you never see the hounds just the fanny of the the one in front of you!

There…hows that!??
Sadly so much is true!

New Virginia Fox Hunting Website

We have just started a new website for hunting in Virginia. Hopefully once it’s announced (which is right now I guess!!) more VA hunts will participate and add their news, calendar events, and information. It is a work in progress.

Have a look at http://www.foxhuntva.com

Any constructive feedback would be appreciated, and maybe it can help a little in your search.

I’m planning to do a map that will show the areas of different hunts and we will add more and more as we go, so any suggestions, please send them!

Meanwhile, as far as looking to move…Our area is really great for affordability, but you won’t be stopping on your way to work for Starbucks (you might not have to stop at all because there aren’t many traffic lights!!) We have a few hunts in the area, and I think our school system is good. However, if the beach thing is a dealbreaker then we are too far from there

We have the history part down pat… Appomattox County “Where our Nation Reunited”

Waterglen, that’s decent…you forgot to mention the periodic outbreaks of bubonic plague, but hey, as long as there’s a few acres left for me somewhere, (and I do have my somewheres in mind), our OP is of course welcome.

Cheryl, I’ll check out your web site (and that IS a good area, but I won’t share any details…)

Cheryl:
Such a map is a terrific idea. I had no idea where Stonewall was until you created your new site.
