Those are the exact boots I use and 2 socks too haha. I’m in Ontario
Please forgive me if i’m stupid, do you ride in the muck boots or just doing chores?
I have these too and I also don’t find them to be very warm. Given the choice, I have a pair of Columbia brand that are similar in bulk and find those to be much warmer.
I may have to look for these. Thanks.
I only do chores in them. In my opinion, the tread is too aggressive to be in a stirrup, and I am waaaaay too old to be riding bareback!
i switched out stirrups on two of my saddles for big irons. One saddle has 5" irons, the other saddle now has 5 1/4. Both fit my winter riding boots or my Muckboots. The Chore style look like they have too much sole. I don’t even like them to walk in, but the Hosers are not too treddy,.
Cheapass kids’ boots from TSC keep my feet warm, aided by wool socks.
The boots have a molded rubber foot & water-resistant fabric upper. Lined with synthetic fleece.
Last night had a -10 wind-chill & my feet were toasty for the half hour I spent doing nightcheck in my barn.
Dollar Tree gloves - some sort of fluffy synthetic - keep my hands warm cheap.
Next best are the camo-print pair I was gifted. With the matching beanie they are lightweight, kinda water-resistant & keep my hands & head warm.
Sounds like you have a super power. Are you also one of those enigmas that wear shorts year round?
Edited to fix a quote
I have Reynaud’s and a handful of other, annoying issues in cold temps that seem to be AI-related. Odd how the human body works. Most other people with AI-conditions I’ve talked to can’t tolerate heat. It would probably be best if I moved to someplace warm but that isn’t going to happen for a few years.
I’ve had the best luck with boots with Gore-Tex lining and slightly roomier fit. I have a pair of Dubarry I picked up used that are great walking around in, though too bulky for riding imo. I splurged on a pair of Parkland boots from Treadstep recently. Wore them while playing groom at a winter for my teen. Occurred to me afterwards that as much as everything else had felt frozen, my toes stayed 100% comfortable the whole time. And you can ride in them.
Muck insulated boots or Itasca boots. I just wear them with normal socks and even -0 my feet are toasty.
I use Bald Eagle gloves with Thinsulate for chores. They do amazingly well but sometimes I do get frozen finger ends if it is really cold and windy( single digits, -0 windchill).
I like the full foot length ones. When I pull of the backing I shake them aggressively, hold them in front of my car’s vents for a few seconds, and then stick them to my insoles. Today they kept my feet very warm at 30 degrees in the saddle and when I was briskly walking after it warmed up to the high 30s my feet were almost too hot. Those paired with thin wool socks should carry you down into the 20s very comfortably (says the southerner who is a total temperature wuss).
I love love love my sheepskin lined riding boots from Kingsley!! They feel just like regular boots and are warm without any bulk!
Oooh, i may have to try that. I pulled the toe warmer ones out from home, it got warm, and i put it in my ugg boots when i was tacking up, still stayed warm, then i put it in my riding boots, and it literally stopped working, that’s with wool socks, thought they were not thin, so maybe i’ll try that.
