Full chaps vs Half chaps.
There’s a company called Smooth Stride that makes awesome riding pants. I have 4 pair! I got tired of breeches because I rarely wear my tall boots, usually have my paddock boots on.
Just got around to googling Smooth Stride. They look great! I love that you can get them in boot cut. What model do you recommend? And how do the sizes run (big or small, or true)? For others, here’s the link to their “Trailrider” breeches:

Sorry I didn’t provide the link jazzrider, I was in a hurry and just wanted to give you an idea.

I have the Trail Rider and Trail Rider Ultra. All with full seats and straight legs. With my paddock boots the coverage of a straight leg is perfect. I have found the sizes to be true, but the owner, Marianne(?) is super about helping you through the fitting and their return policy works great. I just got the polar fleece for winter. Maybe I won’t need my insulated coveralls

Note: I am not in any way affiliated with this company, this is my personal opinion only.

I bought them

Was at the Equine Affaire all day today and bought a pair of Chinks. (What a strange name…) Sooo much easier to put on compared to full chaps, for sure.

I’ll be sure to also order a pair of the full seat breeches. Just received the Dover catalog this past week. I’m sure I’ll find something in there or check out the websites that were posted.

half chaps AND chinks

I always wear my half chaps. They are suede and keep my legs from “wandering”, both western and english. For trails, I add the chinks against the stickers that every sort of plant in Az seems to have. I prefer them to my too -tight long chaps. Plus I got these great chinks for a few dollars at Goodwill in Springfield, OR, where I didn’t much need them, but they look soo cool.
Half chaps seem to be good protection in case of rattlesnakes which I hear in the brush ( but staying On the horse ON the trail seems prudent).
