Where CAN you run a 6yo maiden?[/QUOTE]

Ohio, West Virginia, Delaware, MD to start, not sure about Ill and IND.

Add Illinois. And Indiana.

I don’t know about MNR but Charles Town allows no 6 yr. old maidens. 5Yr.s is max according to condition book rules.

Wow, I didnt know Charlestown was different than MNR - but you are absolutely correct.

I always thought rules went by the state, instead of by tracks, but I guess that is not the case.

Oaklawn limit is 5
Bay Meadows ?
Golden Gate Fields 3 yo & up
Del Mar 3 yo & up

Well here is a partial list: Please note - this list does not mention 2 yo races because they are ALWAYS separate than the “open” or “older maiden.” And of course early in the year 3 yo’s run against 3 yo’s only, this is speaking to the older end of the spectrum instead of the youngest, where they are divided by age to keep them among their own age groups.

Wow, thanks, Jessi! There are more places to run a 6yo maiden than I thought. Huh. Six year old maidens are not allowed in La nor most TX tracks (I hear Manor Downs allows them) so I’m on the 6yo maiden = run away fast thought train. My horizons have officially been expanded.

Any idea how many of these tracks that allow older maidens have other restrictions (level of competition, placings, etc) that would prevent a horse like the one advertised from starting?

Chris, at Mountaineer, once a maiden races for $5k claiming (the cheapest maiden races) they MUST finish at least 4th in 10 starts to remain eligible. They can go to a different track (for example Beulah) and if they run at least 4th they can come back to Mountaineer.

In terms of eligibility for a non maiden - once they have started for 5k claiming they have to run at least fourth in 8 starts to remain eligible to race here.

That’s what I thought in this market, but I did not look up the race record or earnings.

Along the same lines as the ad the OP saw, I found one today on equinenow for a 7 year old (2002) gelding: "Nice bay horse. Correct. Raised outside. Never broke due to owner’s injury. Would like to see someone race him. MAKE ME AN OFFER I CAN’T REFUSE. Will consider trading for anything of value, guns, etc. He is a nice horse - don’t miss out. "

The asking price? It’s been reduced to a mere $4500 (:lol:)
