Gate Help -- Need Advice, Ideas

I don’t think it is anybody’s position to “lecture”. What works for someone’s operation and horses may not work for another. Sometimes a person may have to do what they have to do and they have their reasons.

Throw out alternatives, suggestions and or why something may not be the best way of going about things. IMO is a nicer way of going about giving advice.
Just saying…

Personally I like to use bolted hinge pins. Instead of the cheaper “wood threaded”. If a post should shift and the gate sags it is very easy to adjust back to level without taking the gate off. You can also adjust the hinges easily so the gate will stay in an open position if wanted, or swing back to the fence post in one direction or another.

Thanks everyone! I have learned a ton from everyone’s comments. And fordtraktor, your photos are perfect.

I will talk to my fence guy and see if I can get him to come back and help rehang the gates. I imagine he will and it will take about 1/8 the time than if I try to do it myself. If I know exactly what I’m wanting and can even show pictures, I think he will do it no problem.

I am happy to know that I am not the only one who had to have someone come back and re-hang gates to get them the way you want.

We some times hang several gates, think we are paying attention and later may realize one of those we didn’t quite do it right and have to correct it.

Important to have a level post that won’t move and level the gate when hanging it properly in several directions, so hinges are vertically level and the gate won’t sag in one direction or another.
