Gelding a mature stallion

I am more worried about complications regarding the surgery. I have a call into a couple clinics in the area that offer surgery and aftercare as my vet doesn’t. I don’t want to risk losing him just to geld him. If they think he is a high risk he will just be my ride on property only horse.

We gelded 8 stallions between 4-18 yr of age all at once, at a rescue I volunteered for. No recovery problems. Can’t speak to long term behavior as they were adopted out within a month or 2?
