I wouldn’t expect the appeal to be over with until October or November. I forget who posted but they said in their experience the appeals take about 90 days.
The NFL is like other sports. People over look bad behavior because talent. At least the Patriots cut Antonio Brown.
Just reviving this angle to note that that group has not raised one single dollar more since you posted this one month ago. that fills my heart with some hope for us.
I just posted this in the eventing forum so welcome discussion there, but event rider Callum Buczak has been charged with raping a fellow rider in Austrailia, the national governing body is fighting over their choice not to suspend even though the charge is going to trial. Already some resignations.
Is there anything in their rulebook allowing for suspension pending a trial?
ETA - not that I agree with there being no suspension. Just wondering if the choice not to suspend has anything to do with their rulebook. I can’t read the Australian link without subscribing.
So basically, Equestrian Australia is refusing to join Safesport guidelines, and instead made their own sexual misconduct guidelines. There is a lot of drama right now and it’s not exactly the most clear, I’ve done a bit of research but need to do more. There is a Facebook page “Stop Bullying in Equestrian Sport” that is sharing a lot more information on it.
Why would they? SafeSport is not an international initiative, it’s purely a US activity. I would expect other countries to do their own thing, not “join” an American program.
Well that’s comforting. All you have to do is stay on show grounds and the guy can’t rape you. Go home or off show grounds for dinner and you are fair game. Super.
I think the banning concern is less about the allegation and more about the charges. I believe charges in the US would lead to a SS suspension, right? Like MB currently?
I think there is a difference between “allegation” and “charged.” Once a person is formally charged with rape, then that might be the time for Safe Sport to issue a temporary suspension, but I don’t see how it can be done over an allegation, especially if the victim hasn’t filed a complaint with Safe Sport. (Speaking in the abstract about the US Safe Sport, since I know nothing about the Australian situation.)
In the Aus situation the rider in question has been charged and will be facing trial. That is why I used the term charged. I think SS suspends anyone charged with certain offences.
Brown got fired by the Pats because he couldn’t keep his mouth shut and his head down. They had no problem signing him with the allegations flying around.
