The poster said they might not be innocent because they got something out of it. To say nothing about a power dynamic. My last sentence was meant to be sarcastic.

Actually - the poster did NOT say just that. While there is a small paragraph regarding the POSSIBILITY that could have occurred - there is a lot more written about the victim and hoping they can find closure. The response even touches on why they may have waited 50 years to come forward. My response was taken out of context and I have been introduced to my very own cyber bully.
The post in question is this:
"I don’t know he’s gay. His sexual orientation has nothing to do with his equestrian accomplishments. I have followed him throughout the years and am saddened to see these allegations. I don’t want to assume he is guilty nor do I want to assume the victim is lying. I only hope that there is evidence that can be provided to prove these facts and if it is true, then I hope the victim can find closure.
I am always concerned about these types of situations when they involve public figures. The victim may truly be an innocent who was afraid, embarrassed, shocked, or confused. They may have decided with the way things are now that by coming forward - they can loan others the strength to do so as well.
However, sometimes in situations like this, the victim isn’t exactly innocent because being quiet or participating in certain acts may have helped them advance in their career path.
Only the victim, the accused, and the man upstairs knows the truth in the situation.

Position of power with a minor is what you are not getting. MINOR. One who is not legally able to consent to sex. Wow! Get educated. His sexual orientation has zero to do with him as an equestrian but if the minors are men… guess what you making excuses because minors got something out of it are hard enough for heterosexual situations. Never mind homosexual situations. People didn’t come out in the 60’s and 70’s. Ask me how I know.

So the statement says between 1968 & 1972, which I believe was done on purpose to make people think that this was a relationship that might have gone sour and make them instantly cast doubt. There most certainly is more than just this one time period and victim or if it is just one person, they have some in really damning evidence against him. People can’t get it through their heads that Safesport does not just issue lifetime bans based on someone saying that someone raped them. They do thorough investigations where evidence is presented and interviews are done with witnesses.
GM has a lot of money and most likely has some Pretty wealthy people that will help him finance a legal fight against this. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t curious to see how this will turn out in the actual legal system. It most certainly is going to head that way with GM.

My comment on the sexual orientation was in response to a post above mine where the person was irritated that everyone kept saying “She” assuming the victim was female. I was just saying that I had never paid attention to his sexual orientation - it actually didn’t have anythign to do with the rest of my post. I probably should have put a qoute in there or left it out.
The portion of my post that you are so hung up on wasn’t aimed on age related victims. It was aimed at the recent movement in hollywood where stars talked about how they didn’t want to but they did because they wanted to better their careers.
I never defended the guy. I don’t know they guy. I don’t know the victim. I don’t even know the age of the victim and I never said anything against him being banned. I never said anything about the ban. I don’t even know if it is one victim or multiple victims. When it came out about the gymnastics fiasco at first the news articles made it sound like it was one girl coming out after gosh knows how many years and then when the facts came out (that’s what I did mention - I hope they have evidence - it’s important for a conviction)… it turned out that there were multiple girls involved.
The first article in cases like these are always very poorly written and give little to no information.

Like I said research Safe Sport before commenting. Sex with minors is never okay. Read the Rob Gage thread. Read what people said to defend him and KNOW his victims were reading that thread. Read all the Safe Sport threads here, read what victims have to say. Know that the majority of us are and were waiting for this.
Go read. Then tell come back and state minors were “screwing for the blues.”
