George Morris on the SS list

It seems that I have “exceeded the number of free articles”. Whatever that number was, there must not have been very many, because I certainly don’t normally read the NYT. But yes of course they are within their rights to limit access.

Maybe since this is pending appeal people are holding back. Also, it mentioned people who had more info but were not divulging it all, for whatever reason.

I want to thank and congratulate those here who have the authentic SS mandate documentation.

I am grateful for your unending patience and wherewithal to calmly teach us formerly uninformed.

Please know I have learned from you

I think it’s only like 5 for the lifetime 😆 I forgot it was paywalled because I pay for it, I think it’s $4 a month or $4 each quarter for digital access?

Or you could buy that issue and have hardcopy

The NYT article seems as though it was rushed to publication, which it probably was.

What facts are you expecting?

I’m not sure they have stopped them, but they do appear to be using them more judiciously. Originally, it seemed pretty much everyone was receiving an interim suspension.

I think it was in the COTH Q&A article it was mentioned that cases that involve survivors who are now adults and occurred in the past are less likely to utilize an interim suspension, but those involving current claims of abuse are more likely to receive one. Which makes sense.

If the charges solely pertained to verbal harassment or hazing, it would be very difficult for him to contest that (as he is now doing), given that his own autobiography states that he did so on numerous occasions in a clinic setting.

The newest Times article should be accessible if you haven’t maxed out your free article limit. It seemed like a pretty fair and balanced article, noting some of the accusers’ own histories, as well as the allegations.

For those of you who can’t access the article, the names that have been put forth are Jonathan Soresi (who’s identified as the original complainant) and Michael Hart, both of whom had sexual relationships as teens with GHM in the mid-70s.

Michael Hart’s story is told by both his ex-boyfriend Dean Faiello and a former barnmate, Michael Sasso.

“It was common knowledge in the world that George was having this affair with Michael Hart, who was a junior,” said Michael Sasso, another student at that time who said he was not abused. “That was the ’70s. Those things were a lot looser around all that stuff.”

Michael Cintas, who trained with Morris as a teen in the 60s and said he was not a victim of abuse, also said:

that his coach’s reputation for having sexual relationships with boys he would scout and bring to train on the farm was common knowledge among students and barn staff.

“Many people saw what was going on, knew what was going on, and no one said anything,” said Mr. Cintas, who now acknowledges that what was taking place at the Morris farm was wrong.

The other relevant piece to me is this paragraph:

The SafeSport investigation involved more than one accuser, according to three people with knowledge of it who were not authorized to speak publicly about its details and who were unable to disclose the total number.

I completely understand your reaction. However, do keep in mind that this article only digs into cases in which the accusers have agreed to go public & that the last few days have been absolutely terrifying for the claimants and witnesses. Let’s just say that “allegedly” there are more survivors who spoke to SafeSport and “allegedly” the accusations span over several decades.

I couldn’t wait that long. But the online subscription is only $1/week, which I’m happy to fork over. Just pointing out that the paywall does allow for a brief free preview period, for those who don’t regularly read the NYT, online or otherwise.

I was surprised to see Cintas spoke, since he went on and on on the SafeSport Overhaul page about not wanting to bring anyone down.

My understanding is the reporter has been calling people about this story for at least a year (this is based on posts from Horse Show Diva in a thread about JW in June 2018 saying they got calls from a New York reporter asking about GHM), so he may have commented a while ago.

I will repeat an earlier request from another poster on (I think) this thread to please spell out at least the last names, other than maybe GM, the original subject of the discussion. It’s hard to keep up by using just the initials after 50+ pages, especially now that there’s another person from an entirely different discipline in the mix.

Thank you.

Wonder what the- I stand with George- folks are thinking? Sounds to me like he’s been dethroned.

I am sorry this happened to you.

For sure. GM. = George Morris. RG = Rob Gage. MB = Michael Barisone. The most recent I have heard on Michael Barisone is 2 counts of attempted murder charged. Earlier it seemed like Self defense on the rumor trail. I continue to wait and see. Who even knows…chaos!!!

Michael Barisone. He’s been charged with 2 counts of attempted murder.
