Giants Causeway

Super! She’s a very similar type to mine.

Oh, I love her! She’s eerily similar in type to my Filly of Unknown Parentage who I highly suspect is by Frost Giant. Have fun with her!

Oh she can come join my herd of redheads any day!

My GC is generally very happy to please, but his favorite speed is “stand and eat”, so I can see how that could turn into a “no, thank you” in certain environments.

Good luck! I love her!

My gelding is by More Than Ready and out of a Giant’s Causeway mare. He’s super athletic and smart. He has some quirks but what horse doesn’t…nothing dangerous. He is cranky when cold and when hurting. It took me a bit to figure that out. So now he gets blankets when others don’t need them. He had body soreness when I first had him. He kicked out a lot when touched/brushed. But after chiro and acupuncture treatments, he felt better and that behavior disappeared. He gets Bemer almost daily.

You said the mare was a little sluggish when you first started out. That is my boy too. I have found a long walk warm up with tons of lateral movements. Then tons of transitions within the gaits. Then he’s nicely in front of my leg. I can’t rush his warmup otherwise he never gets forward.

He is a big time mamma’s boy!

How’s the horse doing, @ElementFarm?

Late to the convo, but my all time favorite OTTB was by GC. He was nutty when he was at the track, usually got so worked up in the paddock that he had nothing left come race time. It took a long time to get him to relax, but eventually it was like a switch went off and he figured out he liked his new life. I ended up selling him and he went on to do some high level eventing with his new owner. He is one I have often wished I would have kept but life did not allow it at the time.

Here’s a little update for the GC fans:
The mare (barnname Roci) is developing into a lovey sport horse.

She can be a little b1tchy about upward transitions still, but once she’s in gear, she’s soft in the bridle, light off aids, and so comfortable and smooth to ride. Has offered some changes and while we’re not jumping yet, she is very confident and straightforward over poles. We’ve introduced her to hacking out, and while very snorty, is pretty brave out in the woods. I think she’ll make up as a really nice showhunter, and hopefully can side hustle as a hunt horse for me or hilltopper for my husband.

and how do I attach a picture to the post?

Update May 2025

We took Roci to a small dressage/CT schooling show this past weekend.
She was fairly good to handwalk around, but was a lot of horse once I got on her. We just kept walking and circling, and over time the walk slowed down and the circles got bigger. We just did Intro A, and she held it together nicely. Definitely a bit braced in the contact, but I was very happy with her. After the class we continued walking and circling until she was able to stand quietly. Then some handgrazing and back home. Better yet, she loaded well going out and coming home. We’ll repeat this in June and maybe add Intro C to the mix. She’s developing into a nice sporthorse and is very much my type of ride.
