I will add that I’m not sure how I feel about the ethics of the genetic engineering done here…
I just have to agree
I don’t know either. It is just plain creepy. I guess if I knew that when they are finished with the experiments they won’t kill the kittehs I would feel a little better about it. Who thinks up things like this?
I could make a few jokes about it but it’s really kinda cool. I think it would suck to be a glowing cat though. You couldn’t get any mice with a glow like that.
Then again, they might not end up as road kill either…
Halloween is coming up…if I did not already own 3 cats, I’d so want a day-glo kitty!

Im guessing they will die out as a breed. Outside of the home, none of them could survive. Easy prey to larger predators/dogs and hampered when hunting I think they would have a short life span.
Who gets a specialty-bred cat and lets it wander unattended outside? I mean, you don’t let show-quality cats be outdoor cats. I’d assume someone who had a day-glow kitty would be smart enough to keep it an indoor cat.

I’m thinking of people who are attracted to the latest fads - whose interest fades.
These cats glow under UV. They don’t just glow in the dark.
And none of them will ever be outside of a lab.
This is an interesting modality to track other modifications in the cell. You use the phosphorescence to visually SEE cells that you have genetically modified in another way. In this study, if they have successfully inserted the FIV resistance gene, the cat glows under UV light. If the gene didn’t insert, the cat doesn’t glow.
Party Pooper!
Can you imagine the looks on people’s faces when they see a real life glowing cat?!:lol::lol:
But you are right (several yous) I got my Bengal kitty, which I found - or rather which found me…she is so NOT going outside…
Yes, I don’t think they will be outdoor cats! Hopefully the research will aid in the fight against flv and HIV . I don’t think they’ll deliberately kill them off, but I think they plan to expose them to HIV and/or fiv
