Glue shoes in eventing?

With gluing options and composite shoes improving all the time, can someone tell me what is/isn’t allowed? I can’t find a specific rule (FEI) about glue ons not covering any part of hoof wall…unlike pure dressage, where rules both Nationally and FEI seem strict on this.

Our national ruling (Australia) specifically makes any kind of “barefoot boot” forbidden in jumping phases. The same rule isn’t in the FEI rulings? (or if it is, I can’t find it!!)

I would like the option to compete in Flip Flops or LCs (or similar low profile glue ons). At Riding Club level, glue ons not covering coronet or bulbs are allowed for dressage as well as jumping. You can also jump in boots!

It would seem crazy that endurance riders can go 400km over all terain in glue ons, yet eventers, even at lower national levels don’t have this option? (I realise rules might be different country to country).

Interested to hear your thoughts and experiences.

USEA/USEF has a rule change proposal to make them (or clarify that they are) legal in US national competition.

I’ve competed horses in normal glue on shoes and known many others who have as well. Never had any issues. But those are different from the barefoot boots or the composite shoes.

Were they direct glue (eg Eponas) or shoes with a cuff?

Composite shoes just means non steel, made of synthetic material. I’m just wanting to know if any of this synthetic material can be on the outside of the hoof.

There is much less of a safety issue with glue ons than strap on hoof boots. Goodness, even steel shoes fly off sometimes!

I competed at several 3 days with cuffed Sigafoos glue ons

Mine were these too.

In the US and I think under FEI rules the cuffed glue on shoes are legal (like this: http://soundhorse.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/barshoe15.jpg)-- pretty sure that is true for straight dressage as well.

This is what confuses me! in Australian dressage rules, it states specifically that Glushus (a rubber cuff) is not allowed. Synthetic glued shoes are only allowed if they don’t cover more of the hoof wall than a nailed shoe (which would rule sigafoos out?). Yet, there seems to be no such rule for eventing?

I’ve never read any rules against glue ons.

I have a horse that regularly competes in glued on aluminums. She pulled a shoe last year with a clip and took off most of her hoof wall :frowning: The glue has worked fairly well. We only go 4 weeks between cycles, but she should be able to have shoes again next cycle.

I competed in Epona shoes for about a year.

I just read through this and see nothing regarding shoeing.

I competed back in the early 90’s with the Sigafoos glue ons.
