Goats- how much work are they??

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

For those who “let” (;)) their goats loose in the yard- do they stay close by? Do they go to the road?? We live on a busy street and while the property is ‘fenced’ and keeps the horse and donkey in when we let them out in the yard to graze (supervised), the goats would easily be able to get out (part of the ‘fencing’ is 3’ rock walls, and I just string a single line of temp fence on the inside of the wall and my horse respects it, but goats could easily climb up and over…) Just thinking about what sounds like the inevitable. There is plenty of vegetation that would keep them busy…I think…!! :eek:

When my goats are out with me for a walk or out for a browse I’m always there to supervise. I don’t let them out unattended. If you’ve made good friends with your goats and you spend time with them then they are definitely apt to want to be with you.

If you leave them alone then it’s very likely they will wander a bit to look for tasty things.

My Durin once went galloping down the driveway when he heard people walking on the road. They screamed and he came galloping back. :smiley:

Well, our little guys are roaming about the pasture, and around my barn. We live next to a very busy highway, and they went near it once (this is when I realized the goats weren’t staying in the paddock) so I chased them back, and they haven’t gone that way since–but we are very careful not to put anything interesting over near the road or lock the goats up. They will just wander around to look at it, eat a leaf or two, and next thing you know they are 50 feet from where they were “investigating”.

I was not 100% Pro Goat when my husband wanted them… but I do love the little guys.

That cat is sneaky… it stalks the goats half the time. It’s mom killed 2 different three foot long snakes, so I hope it doesn’t decide the goats look tasty!
