Watching this gave me goosebumps. Two incredible horses. Brilliant, once in a lifetime horses. May they both RIP. Sincerest condolences to their heart families.

From the write-up on COTH it is worth noting that Sapphire’s team decided to retire her at the top of her game without squeezing the last bit out of her, due to small niggling issues, and that they did not want to compete her unless she was 100%.
We can look forward to watching her offspring and hope they do her proud.
How sad. Did you have any other foals other than the 2 listed on horse telex? http://www.horsetelex.com/horses/progeny/90598
How unbelievably sad. So sorry for Sara’s human and horse friends. What an amazing horse gone too soon .
My heart breaks for her people…Godspeed wonderful mare.

IIRC she has 2 yearlings via ET as well as 2 clones.
A marvelous mare gone way too soon. Godspeed, Sapphire.
She was one of my favorite jumpers of all time. Truly an amazing mare. I hope the babies/clones will dazzle us at some time in the future.
I was in awe of this horse because she (and McLain) made it look effortless. I’ll never forget my daughter was still a junior rider and was riding/grooming with Leslie Howard, she was setting jumps and then McLain and Sapphire were jumping a few as well. To my kid, no biggie because she was around the “big jumpers” all the time. But I couldn’t stop watching!!! Sometimes schooling was more interesting than the class.
How sad. In every picture I’ve seen of her in retirement, it looked like she was having a grand time hanging out with her buddy. One of the cutest pictures of her ever was when she first retired and McLain was feeding her a donut from a big box since she could finally go off her diet. I wish she’d had more time to enjoy the easy life.

You’re correct. From the COTH article:
Sapphire had two foals via embryo transfer the year after her retirement, one by Presley Boy and the other by Heartbreaker. She also has two clones: Kara BC and Kidjaz BC, who are 4 this year.
Heartbreaking news about this spectacular mare.
One of the very best. RIP.
Heart breaking…She and McLain were such an amazing team…he rode her with so much respect and the result was truly awesome!!
Godspeed beautiful mare.
They made the jumper courses look like an equitation round. Just simply amazing…
God speed Sapphire…
Such a shock to hear of Sapphire’s passing. Condolences to her family and all those who loved her. We have lost one of the great ones…

What an amazing mare, she always made it look so easy. God speed, pretty girl.
Oh wow… what a terrible loss… Godspeed Sara - fly free. Many prayers for all who loved her.
She was my very favorite. On top of being an amazing jumper, she seemed like a kind soul. Rest easy big mare
