Going to England for some horse shopping.... Any advice?

I did a few fun unplanned horsey things in England while travelling around:

  • stumbled upon a horse trials that was running - watched the ponies going Novice (our Prelim)

-stumbled across Royal Windsor horse show - fun watching the show horses and ponies, the RCMP musical ride (yep had to go to England to see that!), and outside view of the castle

-drove through a racing area (can’t remember if it was Newmarket or Lambourn) early in the morning - got to see the horses doing their training gallops in the mist. Then hit up a local tack shop in the town. I probably didn’t buy anything, it was just fun to look.

-stumbled across an event site in Scotland - can’t remember which but I recognized the name. We parked and walked around a bit (don’t forget they have walking trails/footpaths everywhere, so if it’s marked you can walk).

If you are going to be there around the 10th November, I would definitely hop on a plane to Ireland and take in the Goresbridge Go for Gold sale!!

If you are going to be travelling around, this website https://www.horseeventsuk.com/ may be a useful starting point.

There are horse-related things all over the country, from racing every day (and each race course is unique, currently just coming to the end of the flat season and jump gearing up as still early in the season), to the last few events, dressage and show jumping competitions all year round and hunting from November onwards…

There are tack shops all round, variable in size and range of products. Perhaps go to Newmarket for a day or so, http://www.newmarketexperience.co.uk/ home of racing with a really good museum, training grounds to watch the horses in the morning, visits to the breeding farms etc and a couple of tack places such as http://shop.horserequisites.co.uk/ or https://www.gibsonsaddlers.com/
