I agree! So it’s weird to me that his bodyshape, movement, and personality don’t suggest QH. I would assume most unregistered horses around here are QH.
Running QH (racehorses) are thoroughbredy. This horse has big hindquarters and a dished face and that says QH to me.
Yeah. While I see no reason why the horse couldn’t be the TB/Welsh cross it is represented to be, neither would I question a seller who told me it was an unregistered QH.
I’ve got a Welsh/TB cross, too. Dished face, really nice mover. Also a forward thinking horse with some expressive opinions (which are slowly being modified). He’s also 15 hands and big bodied. Most think QH/Arab cross, but I’ve got his papers.
I would have guessed QH cross. I expect to see a daintier head and less bone on a Welsh/TB. What a cutie whatever he is!
Wouldn’t his head be more “refined” with that cross?
I am not calling his head unattractive at all @Whinny_the_Pooh --he is a nice boy.
Yeah, he doesn’t look as dainty as the crosses that pop up with a Google search. Still, Welsh/TB would be a weird cross to make up, from the seller’s point of view, since I think a QH cross would get more interest in the local market. There’s almost no local interest in English disciplines.
No worries! I’m well aware that his head could be more refined- and his neck could be longer, if I’m making a list! I’m just interested in helping him become the best possible version of himself, short neck & all.
Um not necessarily. I had a wonderful welsh cob mare which I bought, imported, for a song because she had a ‘horsey’ head. Thankfully my choice in stallions always improved her head but ‘common’ heads do result out of welsh crosses.
My mare has one herself.
I wondered if he could be a QH/ Welsh cross?
Certainly a possibility and could easily make up that height whether crossed with a Welsh cob or a section B. I’ve seen bothe crosses reach heights at 15 or higher depending on the QH
The head would be more in line with a QH cross at least to me.
My possible Welsh cross pony had a very common head. Nobody would ever call him beautiful, but he was so full of personality, he was cute. And he had beautiful eyes. But if you looked at him critically, you would say WTF?

And, weirdly, my horse’s square head still takes a cob-size headstall
And a handsome guy he is!!
I lease a welsh/tb cross that is 15.1 and thiccc. They can get bigger! She does look a little like my lease horse!!
My former trainer would be so jealous! He looks just like a taller version of a 13hh welsh/TB cross she had. We often joked about how wonderful it would be to have one just like him but with a couple of extra hands!
