Does any one know anything about Happy’s Dream Ranch in Prescott, AZ? Owner/Trainer is Debbie Jamsa.
I know this is an old request, but thought I’d respond in case anyone is interested. Short answer, yes, I know her and had a horse in training with her. My advice, stay far, far away from this “trainer.” Unprofessional, threatening and mentally unstable. Thinks because she did some certifications through USEF that she’s now qualified to teach and run a stable. Not the case.
I worked for at her ranch a few months and it turned into a disaster at the end. Very tumultuous environment. I could never meet her expectations no matter how hard I worked or how late I stayed to complete all the work she was asking for. She was sometimes controlling and had a ruthless desire to cut me and others down behind our backs. I would hear a fact, story or gossip in the barn and then I’d hear her repeat her own version of it.
They have had an ad on Yard and Groom for a very long time now. That can’t be a good sign to a prospective employee, if that is why you ask.
Hi,
just wondering if anyone has anything positive to say about this place and Debbie jamsa?
Are you looking for a retirement place for a horse, or what are you looking for? that might help you get different responses. I lived in AZ for 6 years and am happy to PM you my thoughts/experiences as far as personality. If you are looking for an opinion on care, I can only offer a little perspective on that. So it depends on what you are looking for.
Debbie has been very involved in the AJHA association. I don’t think she is currently on the board now.
You can check out her clients show results on the AJHA site (if you know who her clients are) or you can find a list of trainers results (put in her name under results) at the various AZ shows under horseshowing.com
It really depends on what you are looking for and what your goals are. If it is to show at the highest levels and compete in California/Colorado and back east you will have a different set of expectations than if you’d like to show at the smaller rated shows and the unrated shows.
I’d recommend if you’re wanting to see who is good etc and who seems to fit with your needs, to go and watch ringside as the various trainers prep their kids in the schooling ring before they enter the show ring. Look around and see whose clients are well mounted (don’t have to be the fanciest but should be safe and appropriate always). See if they enter the ring dressed appropriately with good fitting tack and clothes. Again, they don’t have to have $700 coats but what they have should fit well.
If your goals are to compete back east then you probably do want to be in a barn full of expensive horses. If your goals aren’t that, then a barn full of nice, safe horses who enjoy their jobs might be a better fit.
Lots of trainers for lots of different clients.
Yes please pm me.
