Has anyone given up on fly spray?

It’s a lost cause. I spray for trims and general comfort when I bring them in, but for the most part, they out 24/7 and deal with it naturally. They share each other’s tail, they hide in brush or under trees etc.

For just as effective as the rest but a bit more economical: Good ole Repel-X concentrate and Tractor Supply’s Du-Mor (el cheapo) fly spray refill instead of water. Shake and spray at will.

The Freedom 45 “spot on” treatments are quite effective. They don’t work 100%. But they do prove the old adage that “perfection is the enemy of excellence.”

Highly recommended.

P.S. Ours, too, live outside all year 'round.

Ditto except I additionally use vinegar. I have no clue if it really helps but it “seems” to for me.

Daily black Ultrashield + Simplifly feed thru (starting in March/April) + masks and boots here. We also give ACV in the feed. They live out year round. Nothing will work 100%, but controlling the source AND using a spray will get you the best results.

I find nothing really works. Tried everything. But I, too, feel horrible about not spraying. Sigh. So now they just have fly masks, and get sprayed with Nature’s Defense once daily because it smells nice to me & is cheap, lol.

The Pyranha definitely works, but it also gives my mare hives. The Endure works pretty well. I usually just use Bronco, because it’s cheap and lasts long enough for a lesson at least. The flies aren’t terrible where I board because they clean the paddocks daily (a new and much welcomed development!) and all the horses are on a feed-through product during the summer.
