Has anyone made ice boots?

The fold up chairs we all use at horse shows? That come in the bag? Use the bag. The bottom fits the size of hoof and if you want to ice the foot too, you can. If you don’t, just wrap the foot. Then fill with ice, and wrap at the top with what ever tape of choice you have or want. They work on fronts and hinds. And they are mostly water resistant, at least enough to hold ice/melting ice and its water for 30 minutes. The string closure at the top helps to secure them a bit to the horse but you do need some sort of tape (vetrap works) to hold them.
You can get crazy with colors–a different color for each leg–or be conservative and use all the same color. The bigger chairs work best.[/QUOTE]

Awesome. I’ll have to try this.

oooh, great idea!!! I’m totally trying that next  Luckily… the farm I ride at has a lake… so I just stand him in it. But at horse trials… I have to come up with a new plan

I will try this too… now to find those dang chair bags that are stuffed away somewhere…

Making ice boots from shipping boots

I was also thinking of doing this. I was going to sew in some type of material (not sure, need recommendations) into the shipping boots, and use the ice packs that i get from Dr. Foster and Smith when I order my vaccines, since they stay cold for like 72 hours. I planned to make the pockets the size of those ice packs.

Not sure which material would be best to cool, but not freeze their legs.
