Dont get me wrong, my Riley had and will have a bad reaction to Comfortis and Trifetix BUT when I called the company they said that he really is such a small number of dogs that react negatively to the meds. My vet happened to have a stock pile of Sentinal and he is on that and it works wonders.
I am not a fan of topicals since I take Riley to the beach regularly.
I’ve been afraid to try anything beyond herbal remedies since Paisley (my epileptic Aussie) had grand mal seizures following the application of either Frontline or Advantage, but the fleas around here have gotten totally out of control. My vet and I decided to give Comfortis a try . . . and Paisley is fine! I gave it 24 hours ago, and with the topicals he was having seizures within two hours of application. I think we’re in the clear.
Okay, so I bit the bullet & gave Shorty her comfortis. First I fed her her canned food like normal, then I only gave her about 2/3 of her pill which was for the 10-20lb dog. She weighs just 11 lbs so I didn’t want to overdo it.
So far she has been fine & I saw an immediate reduction in scratching that day. Now 4 days later, still doing great! Keeping fingers crossed but I think the others are going to have to try it too. All except for my seizure dog.

I would call the company about breaking up the dosage. I only say this because when I was breaking it in half and giving 1/2 in the AM and the other half in the PM within the same 12 hour period they said that it does not work. NOW I know that you are only giving her one dose, but just ask. The customer service rep said that the medicine is not equally distributed within the tablet, so you may not be giving ALL of the med. to your dog.
Just call them and see what they say, to be safe.
I thought about that but I just wasn’t going to give her that big of a dose. However much she actually received it did seem to work. I’m still going to follow her with lab work & be sure no elevated liver enzymes, etc.
The last time one of the company reps came to talk to us they advised giving half doses am and pm to sensitive animals. Their reccomendation was that as long as it was within 12 hours that it was considered an effective r dose.
I have 3 shelties who were on Frontline when one, then all, got fleas. Two of the three have very sensitive GI tracts with periodic bouts of hemorrhagic gastroenteritis which means they occasionally have diarrhea full of blood. Our vet put them on Comfortis but gave me Reglan to give them 20 minutes before dosing them and we have had no problems.
Why don’t you just try Advantix for the fleas? Make sure you spray your yard, vacuum every day and dispose of the bag, wash all the bedding in hot water.
