Head First Fall at Santa Anita Yesterday?
Let’s look at the specific case.

Santa Anita is not some bush-league circuit. The track has worked very hard to improve conditions of horses and riders. Some of it mandated by the regulating body (like the synthetic track) and others from the feedback of trainers, jocks, and owners. I’m quite certain after the breakdown the horse was examined and on-track authorities investigated the circumstances of the injury to the rider and the death of the horse. Santa Anita is not above legitimate inquiry with any type of breakdown but they’ve demonstrated a solid record of pursuing those who flaunt the rules.
Let’s also not forget that Doug O’Neill is one of the leading trainers in the country, and for him to try to cheat with a second time starting Maiden is absolutely ridiculous---- I stabled with Doug when I was out in California, and I know for a fact that he is not a cheat.

Lora-- please get your facts straight-- you are making an arguement that does not hold water with those of us who handle and deal with theses highly tuned athletes each and every day!!

Citing an article which has no bearing on your arguement only makes you look foolish and dumb.

Lora, Are you a PETA member? Many of your posts bring up drugs. Why are you sooooo centered on drugs when the start of this thread had nothing to do with drugs?

Thank you for all the race horse posts that will not let Lora’s fantasy go unrefuted.

Wow…derailment! Thanks, Lora. Really appreciate it

Thanks for the updates. I actually forgot that I had posted this! It’s been a busy time, and my memory is short. Glad he’s going to be okay!

I worked in a state animal health diagnostic lab for a few years assisting in necropsies. Horses have heart attacks just like people. We had several pleaure horses that had heart attacks out in the pasture playing around. Ages were from 2-35yrs.
Thousands of horses run every year. Heart attacks are going to happen. Don’t use it as an excuse to promote your cause without knowing the facts. PETA articles will never pass as logical or non bias data. If you want to be taken seriously use true medical journals.

Up here in ON, any horse who has died x days (I have 60 in my head, but forget now) within a race or a work is sent for an autopsy at the owner’s expense - racing commission rules. Don’t know if there are exclusions, but I don;t think so. And yes, I have seen a 2yo, never started, die from a heart attack following training. His trainer (who was his owner) had a small string, and IMHO and experience does very little messing around with performance enhancers. Rider KNEW what was happening, jumped off and ran beside the gelding off the gap to avoid taking anybody else out with him.
