Heavyweight blanket not warm enough. What next?

I’m finding laying not keeping horse any warmer. When 35 below zero heavy weight, plus medium weight blankets. Plus BOT sheet. All add up to useless for warmth. Horse is shivering cold this am.

It may be that you’ve just hit the point where it’s too cold for blankets to compensate and you need to keep the horse in. Our barn is a good 15 degrees warmer when it’s closed up and full of horses.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Miss Mare is in her 300g heavyweight with a 180g midweight with integrated neck on top. She’s warm and happy.

Got the whole herd bundled right now- even the woolly mini is in his tiny blanket. -40 windchills. Yuck.

A have a fleece liner from Schneiders that has nylon at the shoulders/chest so it doesn’t rub. Over this I put an Irish knit cooler and then a heavy weight turnout. This gives extra air for insulating without too much weight. The Irish knit as bottom layer causes rubs
