Helgstrand Acquires CoTH

Seems we have a new landlord. I am quite disappointed. I feel like American dressage has been acquired and not by a competitor with a record of horse welfare.

Well, I’ll see my way out. Especially after my Helgstrand comment yesterday  #goodtiming

Oh so interesting.

COTH as a magazine was kind of a neutral thing with no fingers in the pie. Helgstrand is a player in equestrian world. I wonder if they will be able to tolerate the wide ranging discussions on the forums, including yes, the criticism of Helgstrands German training methods under the MB thread?

How long do we give the Forums before we’re evaporated? I say under a year

I wonder if we will get more coverage of European eventing and SJ. I could not read that article-print is too small and hitting zoom didn’t help.

Our voices will be stifled. No doubt. American dressage is doomed.

Not necessarily that. Because their business model is clearly selling more horses to Americans!

A good way to do that is to start with a new slate of staff, loyal to you. Then tell people what they need to have and funnel their attention and money where you want it to go.

Charge the publicly advertised rate to your competitors, but those in your camp get to pay less, or first crack at the most valuable advertising spaces; who gets the feature articles; the editorial board setting the tone for the news, etc. Happens all the time.

I doubt the forums will be available for more than a year. If they remain it will be at a hefty price.

Remember syllogisms? If I were a QAnon type (believer in wacky conspiracy theories), I could write a syllogism. (OK, kind of a syllogism).

LK trains with Ulf (Helgstrand).
The Ks don’t like what we write in COTH.
The Ks (Helgstrand) buy COTH.

ETA: Before I get reported and into trouble, it’s a joke.

Bummer

I think Helgstrand is well accustomed to criticism. Criticism is rampant in the dressage world.

ETA: it does feel like a bit of a monopoly though.

So is Bellissimo.

Helgstrand training models going mainstream in the states won’t sit well with the public.

Don’t you think it’s possible they bought the publication to access and market to an American market? Why else buy a publication that puts so much emphasis on hunters?!

IDK about the forums either but it seems like they would keep it because I imagine it’s a good revenue stream.

You find this disagreeable? Which parts?

And print is dying. It would be crazy to buy this asset for the print side

I just hope their horsemanship is better than their grammar and can only assume that since they/it are/is a European company they are not fluent in English writing. I am a bit confused as to where the company is, since the notice says it is based OUT OF Denmark, not based IN Denmark.
But since the group can’t make up its/their mind as to whether it/they is/are a group plural or singular (again with the non-native English language), I just hope they won’t get rid of the forums.
Or must we now all post in some European language? (Again, OUT OF Denmark)?

The parent firm is based on Denmark. GEG is a holding company (singular), that owns a bunch of companies (plural), some of which are not in Denmark.

Most Europeans and Scandinavians speak excellent English (they’re not waiting around for Americans and British to learn Norwegian or Danish or Dutch).

How many foreign languages do you speak as fluently as the press release was written in English?

I think it’s things like this people find disagreeable about Helgstrand’s methods:
