Helmets....which is your favorite?

If you walk into a barn with a candy bar, what is everyone going to say?

Silly analogy, but it’s true. People ask the same question hoping that their post will sum a different answer. Try it on, if it fits, that’s the one  I think we’ve slowly started to migrate from the “what’s in” to “what’s in that fits”.

I’ve had all of them at one point or another. CO doesn’t do washable liners so yuck to that. GPA I’ve had two first ladies and love them except the harness is USELESS. they stay on merely by how well they suction to your head. Even if you tighten the harness it just loosens itself and accomplishes nothing. My Samshield Miss Shield has the best harness on a helmet I’ve ever had. It actually feels like the harness is doing it’s job in keeping the helmet on your head. I plan to stick with Samshield going forward accordingly.

FWIW, I have the AYR8 and it fits perfectly, and I have the longest oval shaped head you can imagine.

I have tried on the GPA’s; they fit my head quite nicely. But, I am always willing to try on other brands; so it looks like a trip to the tack shop is needed. I will take into consideration all the brands that have been commented on. Thank you everyone!

I just got a Kask Starlady and love it! I traded up from a CO. I have quite the round head and it fits nicely.

News flash! CO just came out with models with a removable, washable liner! I am very excited. The “Plus” designation e.g. “Ayr8 PLUS” is the one with the liner that comes out. I have covetousness in my heart.

Ah ha! Finally they caught up with everyone else! You want it, you need it, oh baby oh baby.

I bought the gpa in navy blue…it fits my head. Not made anymore this particular model. Thank you everyone for all the suggestions. Bethe

I ride in a Tipperary because it’s affordable for me and I like how it seems to go lower in the back than other helmets. I feel like more of my head is covered.

[Edit]

I have had a heck of a time finding a helmet tO fit my small, round head! Ones that are supposed to be round were no goes including the GPA little lady, which as others have said is very nice. I ended up in an Antares and it’s super comfortable and a lit more attractive than they used to be! LOL Make sure you try as many helmets as possible and if they’ll let you, wear it for at least 30 mins…,the Antares rep, had me wear it around the show grounds, run, jump off things etc to make sure it was comfortable and stayed in place! (I was great entertainment for my barn mates)

Agreeing with everyone else - get what fits you. I have a Samshield because it was the only thing that fit me properly. OneK’s weren’t deep enough and the COs weren’t quite right. The CO Wellington Pro was close but my wasn’t quite oval enough and it gave me headaches.

I really didn’t want to spend over $200 for a helmet, but I like my brain and I’ve had two concussions (not from riding) in the last three years already. So I had to go with the one that fit the best.

It fits well, has the washable liner, looks nice, and Samshield has a replacement program like CO/GPA.
