i used to ride in charles owen, now ride in one k for the MIPs …
i really want a samshield but can’t get past the fact that it doesn’t have MIPs
all this to ask - what are the most popular/commonly seen helmets in the hunters and eq right now?
The 3 you listed are the main ones I see, not that I pay very much attention to people’s helmets lol. But definitely CO, oneK, and Samshield. Samshield being the “classiest,” which doesn’t really matter anyway. My show helmet is a oneK which I love and my schooling helmet is a velvet CO which I like. My hair is so thick that I need two size lol- I don’t put my hair up when I ride at home.
Why do you want one? To be trendy? To make sure you fit in? Honestly the judge only cares that your helmet is properly fitted, chin strap tight, and it’s not too blingy. Your head is far more important than being on trend. I’d stick with the highest rated helmet but I’m older and risk averse.
Charles Owen has MIPS helmets.
You’ll mostly see Samshield, Kask, and CO in the rings as they are most popular, but stick around the show long enough and you’ll see all kinds of helmets.
Ehh… I see mostly Kask and Samshield. Maybe CO as a late third, but not too many OneK’s anymore.
Maybe I’m biased because my sister and I show in oneKs haha
Just for what it’s worth to you, we have a Facebook Group for all the MIPS equipped Equestrian Helmets. Just Search MIPS equestrian and you’ll find it.
I have brand reps, store reps and researchers alike. Come on over and take a look around if you want. There’s definitely a lot of hunters in there that care about safety and a bunch that have been abused by daring to ask Samshield if they were going to increase their safety in the helmets.

Based on both what Ive seen showing, and what Ive sold working at a tack shop in a show-heavy area (I don’t know a better way to describe XD lets just say lots of big A shows and many people go down to WEF/WEC for the winter) Id say for show helmets Samshield is the most popular (I ride in one!), followed by Kask, then OneK (I show in one!) and then honestly Tipperary. I wouldn’t overlook the newer Tipperaries; they have MIPS, are stylish, and the dial is very low profile. To be honest, I very rarely get anyone buying Charles Owens helmets, but the people who do tend to be wed to the brand for life!
