Should say “what it needs this moment” but I’m afraid to edit to fix that.
Good luck with your ride tomorrow. I think explaining the situation at the beginning and then just letting it flow is exactly the way to go. I also think it’s good to have uncomfortable deadlines sometimes, and doing this lesson but with low expectations clearly communicated could still be really fun and useful. I have done something similar with a horse that was out of shape and I left it with a lot of really positive homework.
I can find it helpful to rehearse my speech in my head beforehand so it flows, or you might find it helpful to write it down and maybe both of giving it to the organizer to give him in advance and/or you handing it to him when your session starts, if you think you might over explain or get too emotional about some of the details when trying to say them.
I hope you have a good time and a positive experience, and thanks for supporting the clinic for both yourself and the other riders.
I know Jim personally. He is a very empathetic guy. You will be fine. Go have fun, it might be just what you need! I was feeling the same way about a clinic I signed up for last weekend. It ended up to be one of the best experiences I have had in years!
Well, I had a really lovely time. The clinician, Jim Hicks, basically let me tell him what I wanted to work on. It was low key but helpful. I kind of wish I could ride tomorrow.
I am glad I went and it was good for my riding and soul.
Yay Lunabear, good to hear you had a good time.
I want to like this several times over!
Will done you!!!
I’m so glad to read this!!! 💞
Lunabear, I saw your post too late to comment, but am so glad that you rode and had a positive experience - good for you! Riding after the loss of a horse is so hard… the first time I rode a horse after putting Blanca down, 3 months later, I had tears streaming down my face most of the ride. Can only imagine how hard that would be in front of an audience. I’m so sorry for your loss.
And thank you for supporting your BO bringing in clinicians! As someone who regularly schedules clinics, it is really great when people ride or audit even when they might not think that the timing is the best. Anyway, so very happy that you had such a wonderful time.
