I have this same problem along with SI, back and neck issues. I have very round short backed Lipizzans that needs a hoop tree. I Love the Loxley dressage saddles and even the Cavaletti saddles with a flatter more open seat give you a shorter panel but more room for the rider. I have the saddles with the adjustable hoop shaped gullet bars. Lifesavers! and I think you will love the comfort and balance.
I do have tight hips/desk job and my pony takes a hoop tree. So yes, we are a fitting challenge. The other issue I have is needing a narrow twist. It’s difficult for me to asses what fits when I can’t get my leg to hang properly. The saddle fitters I’ve worked with never seem to have anything that fits both me and my horse, so it’s a constant back-and-forth with shipping demo saddles. My current BC rep hasn’t responded to my emails or phone calls so now I’m stuck with yet another saddle that doesn’t fit.
I was going to comment on the very same thing.
The problem is that this saddle just doesn’t fit at all. I do think you need a larger seat/saddle. Your pelvis is tilted forward and your shoulders are behind your lower body. If the seat was larger and your upper body slightly more forward, you could let your leg “hang” under you and your butt would feel nestled into the deepest part of the saddle. The fact that the seat is too small and you cannot find your seat at all in this saddle is exacerbating the long femur problem.
i have a short femur. Riding my green-as-grass young one, and i keep short stirrups for the green ones
And here, on my working girl, i ride with longer stirrups and femur looks almost normal, but i think that’s because short boots and socks disrupt the look of my longer tibia
edit: yeah i know…we’re all-dirty. Horses come straight from pasture, me, from chores. and i have no idea what that second photo is showing up twice???
I’m going through the same difficult journey. Shipping saddles back and forth gets expensive fast.
Best of luck!
Try Custom Saddlery
My daughter and I are both tall with all of our height in our legs. My daughter’s inseam is 36".
We both found the Custom Ikon Star to fit our long femurs. I’m in a 17.5; she’s in an 18".
We both have short blocks.
Good luck! Reach out to a saddle maker and find out when their reps travel through your area or within a few hours drive. It’s worth the effort!
I don’t know what is “average” for femur length!
I know my lower leg is quite short. When I measure for tall boots it is 15". (I am 5"3" tall) I havent been able to find any off the shelf boots! I am also short waisted as low rise pants tend to fit at my waist. So I am guessing my height is in my femurs…
