Help me rehab this grimy trough I inherited

I’ve pressure-washed my tanks like this one and it doesn’t get the scale and build-up off completely. It’ll get rid of algae and brown gunk but not calcium. I live in TX Hill Country so we have calcium from the limestone and I just don’t worry about it. It doesn’t hurt anything and there’s no way to prevent it without a water softener, which is crazy for outdoor tanks! I’ve tried putty knives, everything. For the price of strong 100-gallon tanks, I’ll live with it.

I finally got around to trying the CLR. I had a nearly full quart on hand and used all of it in two treatments. I was optimistic it was going to be the answer to my prayers by the way it bubbled and fizzed on contact. But alas, it didn’t end up being any more productive than anything else in the end. After soaking and scrubbing, the trough looks about the same.

It’s looking like I have a new planter.

Any way you can drill holes in it and use it as a hay feeder somewhere in a pasture?

i’d buy about three or four gallons of white vinegar and dump them in there and then add water all the way to the top. I’d dump it out and scrub it in about a week (topping off with water ever couple of days as it evaporates). Then i’d re do it to get to the next layer. Just be sure where you dump it is not onto vegetation you wish to keep alive. Do it on a gravel lot or something where you might just kill off weeds you would have to pull out anyway.
