He is really, truly lovely. Such a great story too!
Such a gorgeous boy! Happy for you and him.
I found it unbelievable how mean people were originally, but I guess that’s just this BB. The BB didn’t deserve the horse owner being so nice! New horse owners, or those who don’t hang out on FB or BBs might not have the same suspicions that others might have about how honest sellers are/aren’t. People get scammed like that all the time and the treatment they get at places like here make them less likely to ask for help in the future.
I’m glad that the OPs horse ended up working out!
He’s absurdly lovely! Thank you for sharing!
A further update, now that he actually IS 21…
He continues to have me wrapped around his hoof. We have won rosettes in everything we’ve entered and he’s given me years of happiness - hopefully many more
I’m so happy this had a happy ending! I skimmed this thread briefly and I’m shocked people found this story so unbelievable. I have photocopies of horse’s passports in my email somewhere from when I barn managed and owners emailed them to me for entries.
And I had a somewhat similar situation to OP where I took a horse after the seller told me it was sound and never had any lameness issues, and then I got a facebook message from someone who used to work for the seller telling me I should really ask X vet practice for the horse’s records because he had been off intermittently and seen for it at the request of the seller. (Similarly, it all ended fine: I had noticed the lameness, got the horse for $0 after pointing it out, and resold it down the line…where he passed a PPE after disclosing the records. He really just needed 4 shoes and some time).
I think it is very clear that he was destined to find you…
This is great! Hopefully 21 is the new 12!
Oh, my… i know the sinking feeling…This is exactly what happened to me! I was told she was twelve and she was actually 20(ish)! She was a very athletic and uppity mustang and bopped till she dropped in her 30s. Carrying me aboard the entire time. In the end, her age was not an issue…but moonblindness was. That was why i had to put her down.
My first horse bought from a dude ranch when I was 12 was advertised as being 10-12. Best horse I have ever owned in all my 53 years. When I was 15 said horse had a broken tooth so I took him to a vet office to be dropped down and the tooth removed. Old horse vet. Big padded room and he let me and my friends sit in the room to watch. Halfway through he called out how old is this horse ? I said maybe 15-17? He said add at least 10-15 years to that lol. My sweet Apple Jack lived (using the new math) to be 33.
Good to see sometimes things do work out!
He looks younger now then when you bought him. Definitely in better weight.
He definitely doesn’t seem to know how old he’s supposed to be! Either age.
I think, unfortunately, it is surprisingly common to find that you have been lied to about the horse you’ve just bought! Regardless of how experienced or intelligent you might be, there will always be somebody out there who is a more accomplished fibber than you’re prepared for I’m glad your tale also ended well!!
I like to think so
Blimey!! She did very well indeed to go on to her 30s. You must’ve taken exceptionally good care of her!
Thank you!
Great example of seeking the animal we think we want, and ending up with the one we need! He is a lovely boy!
I love this so much, OP. Kick on, you guys are a great pair!
she was a mustang. She had two gaits: Whoa and Go. Very little inbetween! Ideal for a wildchild like i was then (30s and very immature lol).
Never any leg or hoof problems. Never a sunken spine either. She wasn’t a pretty mare, but she was …beautiful <3
