Help with breed(s) of my foster puppy

I have a foster puppy that is about 3.5-4 months old and I’m trying to figure out what breed mix he could be. He is about 14 pounds and his coat is brindle with a little white on the chest. I believe he would be larger at this point but he was very sick and almost died so he had a set back in growth. I’m in a large Texas city so there are breeds that we see a lot of. He could be mixed with something uncommon here but that would be uncommon.
Thanks!

Pit bull and cattle dog. Mostly

Embark can get you dna results. Often the phenotype of dogs with unknown lineage is not what shows up in the results ! Ask me how I know.
Although the guess above is a good one. The other thing is that we often think when we get a new dog a found dog is that it’s two dogs mixed together… When it’s really a very mixed mutt with a very mixed mutt and a whole variety of breeds

Very true. Some Mixes have 5 or 6 or 8 different breeds.

Could be part Dutch shepherd/malinois? He’s a cutey!

I was thinking Dutch myself, with those ears and that color.

Yep, if he was going to be my personal pet, I’d get dna done on him. I am looking for opinions as I need to put my best guess in his adoption description.

Yep, I’ve done dna on one of my personal pets and even though it came back as 60% Weimaraner it also came back with 2-5% each of 12 other breeds.

Definitely got some Dutch in there.

The ears are shared genetics with my adopted (unknown provenance) Shepherd-X from far north Saskatchewan! IMG_9320 Medium

Pit bull, Malinois and/or cattle dog.
It’s likely he is a mutt x mutt cross meaning neither parent was purebred to begin with - so it could be pit x cattle dog X pit x Mali or something like that.

Given that - I’d say get him into good obedience asap. Smart and powerful means he’ll be trouble without a job!

Wow, look at those ears!! LOL Can we see from the front please?

Definitely some German Shepherd ancestry. Those are the traits that stand out most to me.

Always happy to oblige with Scout pics.

So not to completely derail this thread, she has a thread of our journey so far over here:

I think you chimed in early on the thread (thanks!) but may have missed the update that we brought her home this summer.

Firstly, he is super cute!

I find it hard to tell ‘breeding’ when they are under 8-10 months old. Their bodies grow and change from month to month, especially since he was sick.

My guess would be cattle dog, pittie, chihuahua, with some sort of hound in there. …there is something about his eyes that say Dobie to me. I would just list him as a heeler cross.

I don’t think there is Mal in there.
