Heritage Farm's equitation horses

I don’t know the specifics of recent Heritage leases. A few years ago, Nat King Cole was leased for Tori Colvin for $300,000 for the year. (And, no - Tori didn’t pay for it. It was leased for her.) That kind of reset the market for premium leases. People have been asking $350,000 - not sure if they’re actually getting their ask. A good rule of thumb is a year lease is usually 1/3 of the purchase price. There is a definite premium for high-end big eq horses who do Maclay, USET, etc. I know of one person who leased from Heritage approx four years ago for $150,000 for the year, and another who leased for $100,000 but both had show limitations. In other words, they could only show at specified shows - not every week, and only with Heritage approval. I also think that the horses stayed with Andre and Tricia. Neither of these horses were ultimately champions - but they were competitive with good riders. I’m sorry if I’m not answering your question specifically. I think that it is fair to say that there is a range that starts at $100,000 per year for a competitive prospect and goes up from there. The other dirty little secret is that a top top top rider like Tori or TSJ will often get a break if the owner is trying to sell the horse. In other words, an owner will discount the lease to a great rider to gain exposure with the intent of marketing the horse thereafter. This arrangement throws off the market because the best horses aren’t necessarily the most expensive leases if they’re in the hands of a top rider. I might recommend reaching out to Kelianda Farms to get a price on one of their best eq horse like Skyfall. McKayla won a lot on that horse and her parents own it. My guess is that Skyfall would be approximately $250,000 to lease for the year. Another person to check with would be Don Stewart. He has competitive eq horses for lease in the $100-150,000 per year range. Honestly, you pay a premium for a “Heritage” horse - but some of this premium is having Andre at the gate for the judges to see.

This is a very gossipy observation, but knowing what family she comes from, I’ve always wondered why she doesn’t have MORE horses to ride. She only owns 2 active mounts according to USEF. She is a lovely rider and does seem to catch ride. It just surprises me that’s all. Can’t help imagining myself as a young horsey girl with means - I’d be all over my parents for “one of each colour” lol

PS I’ve always loved the Heritage eq horses. Charisma is beautiful, and I always loved this big mare they had called Sierra. I know Betsee owns him, but was surprised to not see Emma Kurtz on Clearway at all the 2017 finals though. Maybe he’s on the injured / resting list.
