:lol::lol: This made me laugh. I can’t use that site because the bright colors are a dead giveaway that I’m not doing work when I’m procrastinating at the office. Clearly they are catering to a specific audience though.
I read your two threads here. I do not see the responses to be that conflicting.
Did I miss a thread or two? I read the one thread in Hunter/Jumper and one in Eventing.
I’ve popped over to that site a few times. But honestly much of it is newbie on newbie and it hurts my head to read about all the disasters unsupervised children bring on themselves.
I lived the feral horse child life, loved it and survived. But now I want a forum where a substantial per centage know more than me!
OP, I would also say to get an independent saddle fitter out IRL. If you aren’t at a stage where you can usefully evaluate online comments on saddle fit, you are just going to go down a rabbit hole of conflicting advice, much of it wrong ( since there is only one right answer).
I am another for get a onsite saddle fitter. There is some rather dubious advice on quite a few topics presented like gospel on MHF. Online someone can be a qualified expert or a fat man living in his mothers basement in Detroit trolling, Until you have the experience to differentiate between the legit, dubious and down right bad advice given online you can get yourself in a mess of trouble from listening to online experts, best to hire actual pros whose references can be verified.
I’ve had a professional fitter out that represented Bliss saddlery and she was informative enough. The cost associated with bringing one down for every different saddle will quickly add up to costing more than the saddle itself. Kwim? I was feeling fairly confident about my knowledge until a professional saddle fitter from the saddle shop confused me. The conflicting information comes from my trainer, the saddle fitters, and other riders with different opinions. That’s all. I just want the best for Henry.
I really would like some validation on my knowledge of saddle fitting. Like wither clearance, not pinching along the sides when you rub your hand under, not going past the 18th rib, understanding that dry spots are pinching there, that the saddle shouldn’t wiggle or slip back, shoulder clearance, the lowest part of the seat being centered without the pommel or cantle being higher or lower.
Thete are lots of write-ups about basic saddle fitting online via reputable saddle resellers.
I have been lucky to find a master saddle fitter who works independently.
She provides tracings of my horses back that I use to see if a saddle is a potential fit at all. That means there are many saddles that don’t even come home with me.
The last time out I picked up a saddle on consignment trial after using my tracings on it, brought it home, had her come verify the fit, and reflock. Actually my trainer saw the saddle at the feed store and told me about it. The saddle was a brand we both really like that has fit my horse before.
You need to find someone you trust who has a lot of knowledge and then you can stop asking everyone in the barn most of whom don’t know anything but feel like they should be helpful.
Trainers aren’t saddle fitters. They can usually tell if it’s a horrible fit, but then so can I.
Going through major withdrawals here also! I dont think I’ve been able to get on since Monday
The link isnt working for me
Rachel they changed the group to secret now it is invite only. I’ll let them know this is limiting members from joining.
I’ve contacted a local fitter. Different than the one I used before (which I wasn’t happy with). Came recommended by another trainer. I can’t use a saddle fitter that I trust because I don’t know any and haven’t established a rapport with one. I would like a local one that has a wide inventory that won’t try and sell me a $4,000 saddle.
Unless of course said saddle was the perfect perfect fit for horse and rider, then she kind of should try to sell it to you.
I’m missing it too. Wish someone knew what is going on.
Okay try again Rachel
approve me tooooo!
Thanks, just requested to join!
I got excited and thought it was back because the last post in the horse training forum changed from “11 minutes ago” to “14 minutes ago” but it was false hope lmao, it’s really pathetic how many times a day I try to refresh it to see if it’ll work
Same. It’s still on my same 4 tabs I have open in chrome on my phone.
I only miss it b/c I like to show off my animals haha I’m actually not real sad it’s gone. It housed a lot of idiots. I like the new FB group though.
I was using a thread in the breeding section to ‘keep track’ of everything involved in breeding my mare last year, and I went to HGS to pull it to send to my new vet for breeding later this spring, and it’s all GONE! I was really hoping it was just down for maintenance or something, but it seems completely gone… I’ve been on that forum most of my ‘online life’ and I wished they would have at least provided some notice if they were shutting it down.
It’s very frustrating that it has vanished completely, so many of us kind of recorded training, health or foaling journeys there, archived would have been OK, not just making it vanish.
For those that are missing MHF, a new BB has been created. Not sure if I’m allowed to link it here. PM me if you want it.
