Hickstead foals?
If you are in Germany the semen is 1250 euro per dose? http://www.gestuet-sprehe.de/en/stallions/hickstead/ Why the big difference in pricing? (:(:
No idea. But it is very odd.

But I think if I were a breeder considering to breed to him, then I would rather save my money and pay for the higher shipping and get it from Gestut Sprehe. You’d still save a bundle.

Hickstead Died today in Italy

Not sure if anyone knows yet but Hickstead died today in Italy. He had finished a course came out of the ring collapsed & died.

Actually he was still in the ring. I saw the video it is heartbreaking.

I rather wish I hadn’t watched that video …I was opening the tributes and then that. I am still recovering. God bless YouTube but then…

 Heartbreakingly sad, sudden, and wrenching.

I certainly hope it was nothing genetic. I am sure we will know in a few days. In the meantime, how sad that he only left a tiny number of offspring to carry on his great legacy. It is a loss felt round the world.

I just saw it also… OMG that is so sad:(

I remember hearing rumblings about Sapphire being bred to Hickstead while she is rehabbing. Not sure if they meant ET or what but does anyone know if that actually happened? I know they must have frozen stashed away but it would make me feel a little better to know that an heir apparent was on the way.

Such terribly tragic news.

The foal Eric bought is by Hickstead and out of the full sister to his Pan Am mount Rosalinda. He sure looks like a superstar in the making:

And I see they have the full sibling for sale this year:

because the dose is smaller.

The second colt looks even more like his father. I hope they do his memory proud.

I agree!

Second colt is just stunning in looks.

Anyone know if Hickstead’s 2004 full brother is breeding? Showing?

I agree. The second colt is very handsome, and in my sentimental state I considered inquiring about him, but I need another horse like a hole in the head. I hope he ends up with someone who will do his sire’s memory proud, like the first foal. Maybe Eric will get both colts to ride. So sad. :frowning:

Its funny Buschkn my first thought upon seeing that colt was still available was "somebody " needs to buy that colt for Eric. If anyone deserves to raise his sons it is Mr. Lamaze and team.

Probably not. This just sometimes happens. This next part will sound awful, but thankfully it happened after he was done jumping. I’ve seen jump racing over here in which the horse picks up to jump and the landing gear never comes down. Been on one at the track that collapsed while galloping out with me.

I wouldn’t worry about genetic conditions. This happens to horses. Sometimes to ones out in fields grazing their little hearts out.

Will be interesting to see how his babies grow up. Wonder how much frozen there is.

Terri

I believe that Sapphire was flushed several times for ET and no embryos were ever obtained. Not exactly sure who she was bred to, though.

I tend to agree but find it laughable that posters here will freak out about a chip in a joint that causes no issues and refuse to breed that but will readily look past a stallion dropping dead in the arena at the height of his career. Just saying.

Ah, the power of the internet.

Might he be a candidate for cloning? They certainly have 1000+ lbs of DNA to choose from at the moment.

I think it would be terribly interesting if they did that.
