High end bridles

They closed the New Canaan store recently, and I think there have been some weird issues going on. I think they’re struggling and sadly wouldn’t be surprised if they did go out of business in the somewhat near future. I think they were bought by new owners somewhat recently as well.

I’m really leaning towards the Edgewood after reading all these comments. My next question is sizing, does anyone have any experience with fitting a larger warmblood? Bigger head very broad across the forehead and nose, would he fit a full or should I go oversize?

@greysfordays

Where are the Horse Man bridles for sale? I’m not seeing that brand for sale on the VS website? VS instagram is a whole lot of pretty picture but NO information and the bridles don’t seem to be for sale on the VS online store. Frustrating. I’m not local to the store. Trying to get a sense of cost…

I don’t think they have full blown ecommerce, it’s a smaller store local to SoCal. If you DM them, they’ll reach out immediately and can send you any information you need. I think I spent $800 for bridle and reins. You can see some of the bridles here:

Edgewoods are known to run big, although my cob bridle seemed to fit true to size. If you buy from someplace like Farmhouse Tack I think they will let you mix and match parts on Edgewood. I think I would go with OS but Farmhouse is great about answering questions and maybe you will need to take measurements of his current bridle to figure out sizing for him.

Happy shopping!

OP, i would recommend working with a tack shop and asking specifically about browband length. My experience with some of the high-end hunter lines is that they are sized for the long narrow head, i.e. their oversize browband is 15". For the price point, you want the bridle to be perfect. Using a tack store to do the heavy lifting costs more than doing it online by yourself but it is worth it in the long run.

I don’t own a horse but I fide my trainers Clydesdale/Paint/TB cross who is HUGE at 18 hands and she has owned her Collegiate ComFiTech bridle FOREVER which she uses for everything. They are a bit expensive but worth the money from what I have heard.

@173north - I just came across the Arion bridles. What do you think of their quality? Are they nicer than the Arc de Triumph and Dy’on?
I am looking at the Arion Figure 8 bridle but really don’t have any experience with the brand. Curious what you think of the quality or if it is worth just sucking it up and going with CWD or Antares or something??

Thanks!

The Arion quality is definitely on par with Dy’on - the founder used to live near my barn so I’ve seen a lot of the line and they’re all gorgeous. @Pronto4

I haven’t touched an ADT in years so can’t comment on those, but if I was going to get a $$ bridle I’d either get a Dy’on (from Europe, get those savings!) or an Arion.

I believe CWD actually contracts out their bridles to the Dy’on factory, so I’d only go CWD over Dy’on if you’re really tied to the brand, because you are truly just paying more for the logo!

Running Fox in Ontario has lovely, high end bridles:

since the original thread is almost a year old, you may want to start a new thread asking about the Arion bridles.

Looking on the website their fb redirects to, they run between 500-600.

Great comments, @173north
Not tied to the CWD brand at all so I am going to take your suggestion and do the Dy’on or Arion. Thinking of leaning toward the Arion!

Really appreciate the input!
