My horse and another at my barn are on hydroxyzine HCL powder twice daily, year round for allergies. We did not have then tested but both managed to injure their eyes a year apart and were put on this immediately. My horse has stopped rubbing almost entirely even in our southern summer. I tried dex until the powder came in and actually saw better results with the powder , he was on 16mg of dex per day.
Ah, this is interesting and good to know. Where do you get the powdered hydroxyzine HCL? Through the vet or some other source?
I order the powder through my vet. They have an online pharmacy option that allows me to have it shipped directly for much less than their “off the truck” rate. It is apple favored so our two horses gobble it up!

Poor girl! I don’t know if the allergy test would help you then, since I give my antigen shots monthly via sub-cutaneous injection. I think there’s another way to deliver the antigens, but I’m not sure.
I am in FL and my pony started with allergies this year. I gave him hydroxyzine and that kept him comfortable.
