Hoof boot suggestions for an OTTB transitioning to barefoot living

I have a pair of Renegades. We don’t have much mud here (I got all worked up over a wee 2” deep patch that lasted a week lol) so I dunno how they would do in mud. They do have Velcro.

They did provide a lot of comfort for my old TB. Stayed on well. Etc.

This particular horse goes better in steel though so the boots are just taking up room in a tack trunk.

Can (or maybe they already do?) the horse come in for some time outside of the mud?

I am working on getting my horse out of boots and truly barefoot but have issues if she is out in a wet and/ or muddy paddock all the time. She comes in for a few hours everyday to stand in a clean/ dry stall. This has helped her feet from getting too soft and thinning (exfoliating) the soles prematurely.

As far as boots, the Cavallos are the best I have found. The scoots didn’t stand a CHANCE in the mud (lost and SO hard to find even with neon straps) and the easy care line doesn’t fit my horse properly. I have 2 sets of the Cavallos so one can be rinsed off (I feel they last longer if I don’t use a brush or soap, just warm water and hands) and drying while she wears the other then swap. She still gets boots for frozen ground as she is very early in transitioning out ( and has a complex history).

He is stalled overnight but goes out in his paddock every day from 7 am to 3 pm. His boots end up staying on in the stall because the staff at my barn will not take the boots on and off on the days I’m not there to do it myself…not the most ideal situation😂

I transitioned my OTTB from shoes to barefoot by using hoof wraps, a cast like material. My farrier put them on after a trim. He wore them for a few months. Then she only used hoof armor after a trim for a couple of cycles. He didn’t need anything after his feet grew some good foot and sole. He stayed barefoot for two years. I only put front shoes back on since his workload increased and we are showing now.

Velcro doesn’t like being wet. That’s why so many products destined for heavy use are so hard to pull off.
