Horse Body Slamming Stall Wall -- Need Ideas to Thwart Her

[QUOTE=Appsolute;8095635]
Along the Jolly Ball idea - and because well I grew up on the coast and I am used to seeing them all the time…

BOAT BUOYS! (or fenders)

They are meant for smashing against, are quite sturdy, have a hole to tie to - and are cheaper than jolly balls.

BRILLIANT!

My mare does that and we now have full solid walls. She only does it though when she is in heat. Are you sure that isn’t your mare’s issue. I have a small Jolly ball that hangs at the front bars. She really enjoys batting that thing around. lol!

Although, when she is in heat she will nearly rub her gorgeous tail out and slam the wall. She only has a mare as one neighbour and no one else on the other side. I have since put all the geldings across from the two mares. I wish there was something I could do to stop her. She is so hard on herself.

Oh and BTW small Jolly balls are way cheaper that those buoys. :wink:

Thanks caper, I had not thought about that, but she seems to slam the wall whenever older mare is near.

In the meantime, we put up a sturdy canvas drop cloth thingy over the bars, between the girls, and the 3 year old hasn’t smashed anything lately.

My friend’s gelding would kick the stall just because he could. Seemed to enjoy hearing himself.

She ended up buying a spray system. There were two sensors she put on the walls that would only kick up strong vibrations (ie, if they’re quietly leaning it won’t do anything, but a big strong push would do it). It sprayed two fast streams towards both opposite corners of the stall and could get some pretty good distance, enough to reach the walls of a 14x14 stall.

It worked really well until pony mare neighbor realized that if SHE kicked the wall, it would spray the gelding.

Smart Mare!

What about using a QuitKick?

Thanks devcubber. So far, so good, with the canvas divider. But I will keep this in mind if the behavior reappears.
