I try to be careful about “advertising” on forums.
I’m leaning towards the DSB II now, anyone know where to buy online in Canada?
Do you have measurements for the HKM boots? My horse is a tough fit with short wide cannons…
I do for most boots. I will message you my contact info.
Another vote for the Prof Choice Ventechs. I used to be a die hard fleece user, but the Valenas would not stay up on my horse’s hind legs and would end up halfway down her fetlock, no matter how tight I made them, and the DSBs don’t seem to last. I will have to try the DSB2 and see if that helps, as another poster recommended. But, for the price, it’s a clear choice - the Ventechs are 50% the cost of the DSBs. They breath really, really well, you can go through water without them getting water logged, the strike face lasts forever, and they are easy to chuck in the washing machine (or hose off after each ride and dry quickly overnight). Did I mention how cheap they are? I love them.
But do the Ventechs offer better strike protection? Are they basically neoprene or is there a hard shell in the strike zone?
Better than, say, equilibrium boots? Yes, absolutely. Better than DSBs? I’d say it’s comparable. Ventechs have a slimmer profile than DSBs, so I think maybe my horse interfered slightly more with DSBs because they stuck out that much farther. It’s not a HARD shell, like Eskadrons, but it is reinforced with a harder (but still flexible) material.
(for what its worth, if you get them from SmartPak I think you can send them back for free if you don’t like them.)
I too had major issues with interfering and my DSB II’s lasted less than 5 months. I am an avid polo wrapper but needed something that was a bit quicker for days when I don’t have much time. I am in LOVE with the Lemieux snug boots. They have a firm shell which means when my horse interferes she can’t wear through the hard protective layer. They have not rubbed her at all and also offer fetlock support which to me is an added bonus. Not the same look as the DSB boots, but I’ve had luck with them. Have had mine for over a year and they still look new.
